Introduction
PIANO LESSONS ONLINE for young beginners. Hello, I'm Mayana Williamson. I'm a piano teacher with a music degree from the University of British Columbia and Suzuki Teacher Training from the Vancouver Academy of Music. My passion is providing a solid foundation for young beginners, my expertise is aligning with each student's unique and natural learning style so learning feels natural and satisfying. It lays the foundation for a lifetime of confidence and music enjoyment! For more than 25 years I maintained an in-person private studio. With the pandemic, I switched to Zoom teaching and I'm happy to say that the quality of students' development has remained as high as ever. I encourage parent involvement in lessons and home practice, as many students (especially younger ones) progress more easily that way. Gifted and other special needs children often fail to thrive in a "normal" setting and my studio can be a particular haven. One parent said, “Mayana, this is where we bring our kids when we don’t think they can learn anywhere else.” The first lesson is a complimentary getting-to-know-you lesson. After that prices for weekly lessons are: 30-minute lesson - $40 45-minute lesson - $55 60-minute lesson - $70 Discounts are available for twice-weekly lessons and for siblings. Message me for a phone chat, followed by a complimentary first lesson.

Mayana has been teaching to piano to our 8-year-old daughter since Kate was 5. She works closely to cultivate our daughter's agency -- in thinking about what went well, what she would like to work on, what is hard for her and what is easy, how to approach practicing, how she thinks about the music v. how the composer does. Mayana has expertise from years with young learners and it shows. We adore working with her, and increasingly Kate is confident and excited about her piano playing. We shifted to online lessons at the start of covid, and while we miss being in person the quality of lessons and Kate's growth has been as strong as ever.

Mayana has been teaching the Suzuki method to my son for the past 4 years. We started with lessons at home then with the pandemic, we switched the lessons to Zoom. Mayana is very good at teaching the technical aspects of piano and adapting lessons to the strengths and weaknesses of the student. She knows how to encourage and challenge my son when he needs it. Or to give him space to express his frustration with the practice. She will adapt the lessons to his needs in order to make sure piano lessons remain a happy experience without sacrificing the discipline that piano requires. My son is now starting his book II and has done 2 recitals.
