Introduction: My students love their lessons! With a balance of creative study and personal connection, my goal as a teacher is to help students develop a lifelong love for playing the piano. My teaching style is enthusiastic and positive, goal oriented and person-centered.
I hold BA in Music from Western Washington University and am affiliated with the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) and the Music Teachers Association of California (MTAC) . I teach students ages 5 and up (9 and up for online lessons) and look forward to answering any questions you have about lessons.
I teach on a new Schimmel grand piano. It has the most beautiful tone and touch! While it isn't expected that students have a grand piano at home (though if they do, that's wonderful!), students at my studio benefit by getting the chance to play on a high-end grand piano each week.
My online students enjoy the benefits of lessons in their home, and my set-up for online teaching uses pro-quality gear and the fastest internet speed you can get in CA. My online students report that they forget that we aren't in the same room together!
I truly enjoy teaching piano. Getting to spend time with other musical people, watching students grow and learn to love piano motivates and inspires my teaching every day!

It is hard to know where to start! Stephanie taught my daughter piano for 6 years from age 12 - 18. She is extremely insightful and came to understand my daughter quickly, then skillfully challenged her at exactly the right level through the years. Music came to be a great way of self expression for our daughter and also a way to relieve the kind of stress that sometimes visits during adolescence. Stephanie managed to walk the line of commitment to high standards and understanding that life is busy in the teen years. She has been, without a doubt, an important part of our daughter's development as a musician and as a person. We are forever grateful to have had her in our lives. (I also took lessons from Stephanie - she is also very patient :) . It is bittersweet that I write this in the past tense - our daughter is going off to college halfway across the country! She would definitely be continuing piano lessons with Stephanie if she were to stay in Seattle. We highly recommend her to any other families seeking a piano teacher for their child. We would also happily answer any questions from any families considering Stephanie as a piano teacher.

Stephanie has taught our son for five years, and in that time has become such a vitally important part of our lives. She helped him discover a genuine love for music, for the piano, and confidence in himself and his abilities. She has a remarkable balance of patience, enthusiasm, encouragement, and discipline that was just perfect for him. He loves piano, and practices for the sheer joy of it, but he also practices because he wants to earn her praise. Her twice-yearly recitals have been absolutely formative for him, helping him gain self-confidence, pride, and an ease with performing in front of others. He started with her when he was in kindergarten, and it has been a joy to watch him grow with her over the years. Can't recommend her highly enough. We love Stephanie!

My daughter took lessons from Stephanie weekly, for three years. We moved to Stephanie after another instructor was a little too intense for her. Stephanie worked with her slowly at first to find a good rhythm for instruction and practice. She established a mutually agreeable plan for practice and a reward system that motivated her. My daughter blossomed. Stephanie was able to rekindle my daughter's love for the piano and guide her towards more challenging work, practice goals and recital pieces. I'm am not a musician so I'm not familiar with all the nuances of learning music, however, I can appreciate that Stephanie worked with her to understand theory, the time signature, reading the music for the appropriate emphasis and emotion and reinforced learning the notes on the staff with games and fun activities - my daughter flourished as a result of her instruction. We looked forward to the recitals twice a year when we could hear all of the students play. We are sad that Stephanie has left our area and would have happily stayed with her. Our new teacher has wonderful things to say about my daughter's play reinforcing what I already knew about Stephanie's instruction. Stephanie is a wonderfully skilled teacher with a kind and caring approach.

Stephanie is very patient with children. She is also very fun and truly teaches them to love piano. Both of my children enjoyed lessons with Stephanie for many years until we moved.
