Same day service requested and provided! It's Spring, so of course the lawn is beginning to look like a jungle, but Robert tackled it without any hesitation. I aslo have three dogs with lost toys and bones all over, which I warned him of. However, he still took the challenge! Will definitely be working with Robert in the future. Very professional, no hassle, and extremely hard worker. Must recommend!

Ernesto, his family, and crew, did an excellent job on our front and backyard. We asked him to clean the perimeter of our house, peel off portion of our lawn, cover with mulch, and plant some trees. They did that plus more. Now our yard looks very clean and alive! He's very prompt, he's pricing is competitive. We would definitely hire him again for future work. Highly recommended! - Happy customer, Francisco F.

Martin did a great job on or trees and we have decided to use him for our continued lawn/landscaping services. He is great at communicating the scope of the work and cost and very reasonable pricing. He even went ahead and did the job without us having to be at home even though we did not leave payment where he could pick it up before doing the work... Great customer service, I would highly recommend him for your landscaping needs... Thanks for the great service Martin :)

Apples did a very credible job for us. The work involved sidewalk replacement. The price was quite reasonable. Pedro and his crew were timely, delivered as promised and quickly made arrangements for another contractor to grind tree roots, as that was necessary. Apples coordinated with the city inspectors and worked to their specifications and satisfaction.

Fernando cut down a large tree for us. He gave us a fair bid and recognized the challenge of the job. It was tricky job right near the house. Fernando was exceedingly hard-working; he worked non-stop on the job. I was a bit anxious before the scheduled date, but he arrived as promised. He and his workers did an awesome job! We will definitely hire them again. Excellent choice!

They performed a whole raft of services for us: - Removed three trees - a damaged, aging willow, a cherry tree that had grown too close to our house, and a maple that had grown too close to the neighbors - Windsailed our fir, so it wouldn't blow over or become damaged (like our old willow) - Trimmed back our apple tree, which had become overgrown - Removed a hedge of laurels that had become overgrown and entangled in our power lines - Removed a hedge of boxwoods that had become overgrown - Cleared an eighth of an acre of 8-10 foot high blackberries - Chipped everything but what we asked them to leave (rounds from the willow and cherry, for our firepit) - Ground all of the stumps They were professional, courteous, and proficient. And, amazingly enough, their prices were reasonable. We've worked with two other tree services in the past, and neither could hold a candle to Cloudy Sky Tree Service. In fact, we're looking forward to having them back next year, to help with our decorative pine and to take a look at our other trees, and the year after that, to help shape our apple tree.

Fantastic! Found another root a month later, but it was probably covered by shredded tree when the work was done. Still really happy with the job.

I highly recommend America Landscaping. They are punctual, hard, fast, workers who get things down well. The money they charge is very fair for their superior work. I hired them to remove leaves from my yard. My beds have never looked better! They are coming back tomorrow to trim all my trees. Also I was impressed by their knowledge of Horticulture. You will not be disappointed with their work. Julie Smith

Grays landscaping did a wonderful job with our yard. I wish I had before pictures, but before our yard was mostly dirt and we had a huge bottom deck on top of a falling apart concrete patio. Grays landscaping removed all the old concrete and bottom deck and our old grass. Placed in new soil and sod and added beautiful bark around our tree and around the trim of the yard. I love how it turned out and I look forward to doing business with them again.

Julio and his team did a great job of cleaning up my rock gardens and saving an apple tree from a neighboring bamboo plant. They aerated the soil and laid down compost prior to completing the job. Before they left they also cleaned up a couple of other areas on my property and made arrangements to come back to complete a task which they discovered while working and did not have the right tools for. They arrived on time and completed the job on time and completely cleaned up before they left. My yard looks fantastic and my apple tree is starting to show signs of recovery! I would not hesitate to hire them again. Great crew - a pleasure to do business with.

R&R (and the owner Ricardo) was the main contractor that implemented my landscape plan (had a landscape architect draw this up separately). He came in with a fair bid and executed the following: 1.) Build of a block retaining wall with capstones 2.) Complete replacement of soil and mulch for the yard 3.) Planting of various species of trees and plants for the yard according to the landscape plan 4.) Installation of pavers and gravel where needed My property was not in an easily location (elevated) - so the work was back-breaking to haul up and down the stairs. His people did this without complaint and R&R was done 4 days before the final date promised on the landscaping. In addition to the landscaping, Ricardo (owner of R&R) is extremely knowledgeable about construction so is able to help you plan around future projects that you may want to put in place (e.g., pergolas). I wish I had known him before I bought my current fence as well. I would recommend R&R without hesitation.

I had NCON out for a quote on a deck and retaining wall. The rep whom came out was very knowledgeable and came up with a plan that really made sense including sprinklers in the back where the trees block the rain. I was impressed with the detail in the quote I received and went with NCON over a lower priced bid. From the first day of construction I was put at ease by the constant communication from the office and the professionalism of the foreman and crew. The work was completed early and I couldn't be happier--my wife is still raving and bragging to her friends and family--and showing the work off to anyone who comes over! I'm really glad I went with NCON and I will definitely call them for my next job. (Maybe a new retaining wall at my place in hood canal?)

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer — whether an interior designer or a landscape designer — does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work you’d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; you’ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

  • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
  • Read online reviews of client experiences.
  • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs.
  • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
  • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

What should you look for when hiring a landscaper?

Landscaping can be costly — though it usually pays off in curb appeal and home resale value — so finding a landscaper who is worth the investment is important. When hiring a landscaper, look for proven success with the type of results you want. For example, if you know you want a drought-tolerant yard, research websites, reviews and portfolios that showcase beautiful drought-tolerant yards that the landscaper has installed. In addition to relevant experience, you’ll want to find a landscape contractor who has good client reviews. Good communication skills are another important quality in a landscape contractor, since everything from plant selection to hardscape installation needs to be discussed and agreed upon. A landscape contractor who is reliable, easy to understand and able to listen to what you want will help make the process seamless and enjoyable.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
