Tara has a way with her students that makes them feel at ease and confident. In just two lessons my 8 yr granddaughter has learned so much. She has never played before and now she is excited to continue. We are very pleased that we choose Tara to start music lessons with.

We unfortunately only attended one of Bryan's drum lessons .(only because my four year old wouldn't practice). Bryan was great! He even had on Aladdin, upon us arriving which made my daughter extra comfortable. It was a great ice breaker for them to talk about. I would absolutely recommend Bryan to anyone needing drum lessons ages kids to adult.

My first first day of voice class was superb. At first I was really shy. But he made me feel more comfortable with my voice. Because there's nothing to be afraid of when your learning something new. I loved his energy. And he's easy to get along with and flexible!

Janet is extremely professional and warm. Voice lessons can be very personal, and Janet achieves the balance between guidance and connecting with you as a person and a musician. I had been singing for about ten years when I worked with her, and was looking to improve on my technique, so finding a voice teacher who could teach adults with experience was imperative to me. I enjoyed my lessons with her and continue to use several of the warm-ups and vocal drills that I learned while working with her.

We are thrilled to have found Janet Rayor. She is an excellent teacher and ensures your child learns proper breathing and physical technique from the beginning. She is kind, funny and energetic, and remains seriously devoted to her trade. Her rates are reasonable and we couldn't be happier with our voice lessons. I highly recommend her.

Minami taught piano to my 5-year old for about a year. I wasn't sure if my daughter was actually capable of learning much about music yet, but Minami did a great job getting her to the point of doing a little recital of a simple song, and I could tell there that my child had learned a fair amount and also had a good time doing it. Ability to teach in Japanese was also a plus for us. By default I think Minami doesn't push kids as young as that too hard. We didn't push our daughter to practice much between lessons and Minami didn't push for that either. But I think she can give students more strict assignments to practice if the parents so desire.

Our 10 year daughter has been under Shireen's tutelage for almost two years, and is already becoming a fine pianist. She is also turning into a very good vocalist! Shireen has never been anything but positive, helpful, and understanding. She is always very thoughtful in the way she teaches. She explains everything, and why it is important, making it easy for the child to understand WHY. She expects the same courtesy, punctuality, and attendance from her students, that she herself gives 100% of the time. We couldn't be happier with the choice we have made for our daughter's piano and voice lessons. Highly recommend!!

She's the best ever!!! I love my sessions and learn so much each visit. She has a real talent with her gift for music. Starting at 55 is sometimes overwelling but not with Shireen who takes the time to know you and makes evert visit special. Love going and love the joy she brings in music! Can't wait to share my talents with my family.

Almost twenty years ago, I stopped singing. I’m not sure why really, but other hobby passions took priority, and recently, I found myself yearning to be part of a community effort at ensemble singing. I realized with the prospect of auditioning that I felt completely unprepared for this task, having been away from singing for so long, so I took to Thumbtack in search of a voice coach/teacher to get me back on track. My search quickly found me in the music studio of Chris McCafferty. (Read previous statement as “I was lost, and now I’m found”). I couldn’t possibly be more pleased with Chris and his teaching style. He offers the optimal combination of encouragement and support, along with practical truths about my areas for improvement in relatable ways that I can understand, with a communication style that is both kind and actionable. In addition to expressing an exceptional teaching style, Chris is an amazing human being, and his goodness radiates from him. If you’re looking for a voice teacher, regardless of your skill level or age, you owe it to yourself to pay a visit to Chris, and see for yourself how much he can enrich and progress your vocal technique.

Erica is a very patient and encouraging voice coach. I always leave each lesson feeling like I've progressed in some way; which is major considering I started not being able to exhale a "tss" for longer than 6 seconds. I've definitely been able to apply what I learned to my rehearsals/performances and am able to see my progress there as well. She really tailors to the student and what their goals are.

When I wanted to start taking voice lessons in high school, I asked my most trusted peers in the Olympia theater community for advice on finding an instructor. Almost every single person sent me in Scott's direction, promising that he was the best of the best. I was lucky enough to take lessons from Scott, and he did not disappoint. Scott manages to be kind, funny, and patient, while pushing and motivating his students to improve their voices beyond what they thought possible. I gained a great deal of confidence in my singing while working with Scott, and was able to develop a lot of range and power in my voice in a relatively short amount of time. Scott is beloved by all who know him, and is incredibly talented. I wish I could still be taking lessons from him today!

Scott was a professor of mine at the Evergreen State College, and then I went on to take private voice lessons with him. I've had numerous voice teachers in my life and Scott is definitely by far one of the best. Besides being inspiring and super fun to be around, Scott is incredibly knowledgable about the anatomy and mechanics of the human voice, so you can be sure that under his guidance you won't damage your instrument (this has always been a concern of mine because my grandmother was an opera singer who got a vocal surgery which ruined her voice). Whatever you're looking to work on, be it more technical or more performance-based, Scott can definitely help you get there. Simply put: he's great, he knows his stuff, and I highly recommend him as a teacher and mentor.

I really enjoy taking mandolin lessons from Terry. He is not only an extraordinary, even legendary, player himself, but he has the ability to teach his art and craft and that's certainly not always the case. He not only taught me basic things that I missed with my previous instructors, but helped me continue to advance. Highly recommend.

About

Learning to sing is fun! You can do it. Even if you might think that you can't sing, I bet you can! It's all about patience, listening, and practice. All voice lessons are tailored to the student's abilities and interests. I will work with your individual vocal needs by developing an appropriate vocal technique. This means releasing the sound, breathing, getting an effective, efficient tone, and extending the range where necessary. We will explore various vocal styles, musical theory, and improvisation too. I teach a broad range of styles from musical theatre, folk, Celtic, rock, contemporary, jazz, and some classical. My students vary in age and ability. The foundation of good singing is the same for all styles. I do not accept just anyone as a student. I prefer to teach people who really want to learn and have a passion for what they do. How long will this take? Well, that depends on your goals. Students ages 5-11 usually schedule a 30 minute lesson, while students age 12 through adult may feel that a 45 or 60 minute lesson will do the trick. Just as for any other instrument, weekly lessons are essential. If a student is really motivated to train their voice, a regular lesson time and regular home practice is necessary to hear and feel results. What are your goals? Having goals for voice lessons is so helpful! Do you want to audition for musicals, community theater or college acceptance auditions? Do you want to sing for friends and family or have dreams of going professional? Do you want to inspire confidence within yourself to just sing out listening to the radio? All of these goals are attainable! I will work with you to reach your goals! You can do this! It's all a part of us! Students may bring material they wish to work on, and I will recommend music that would be appropriate for their voice type. New students may start at any time during the year. Tuition payments are made monthly. Rates are $115 a month for 4 - 30 minute lessons, $173 for 4 - 45 minute lessons and $230 for 4 - 60 minute lessons. Students are required to purchase their own books.
