I was having problems with my LG front load washer and dryer. The pair are 10 years old. Joe quickly diagnosed it as the pump and seal on the washer and the dryer's drum and bearings were going out. I explained that if it went over $500, we had decided to buy a new pair. He told me it would be over that and if it was just the washer, he would do it but since the dryer was going bad, too, we should just follow through with our plan to buy new. Joe is honest and patient man. I will be calling him in the future for other projects. Thank you.

Eric is a stud. Helped us hang two tvs, install a washer + dryer, install a shower rod, and also patch some holes in the wall (even though we didn't even as him ahead of time - he just happened to be ready!). He'll be on speed dial for us from now on!

Lee did a great job fixing the dishwasher as I had hired him to do. Unfortunately, my experience in working with him overall was made negative as I had a leak come up in the kitchen sink that I had thought was related to his repair work. He explained it was not (and I believe he is right), but the manner in which he explained it was negative. It degenerated into messaging from him threatening to sue me for libel if a post a negative review of him. My rating of work completed is 5 star, however downgraded to 2 star due to customer service. For the record, the service came to $85 with the add'l $20 added for him adjusting the water heater (a very reasonable rate). My expectations might be unrealistic I admit as I'm a new homeowner, it's just the messaging that is a bit intimidating. Today 5/30 he offers to help, which I am now declining as this has been too stressful for me to deal with. From Lee: 5/27 " I believe that Mr. Wagoner has an issue with more than one item in his home and that he is unwilling to accept any other outcome but to blame a technician that diagnosed another component in his home. Two separet systems entirely. I've attempted to be accepting but will not come out to visit this home when the pictures he has sent are reflective of an area I did not have anything to do with. I believe after reviewing the pictures, that for some reason or another, Mr. Wagoner will not take landlord responsibility for this easy repair, such as tightening the tubes. I am a home owner myself and would at least try. But Mr. Wagoner refused to try. Rather, he wastes my time with this escallation approach, your time for review, and his time, all the while he could have easily fixed it. But, more importantly, he seems to want to blame someone that helped him out, and although tireing, for a 65$ quoted price. I am hopeful that TT Resolution Team has an appliance person "or at least a homeonwer" that reviews the string, and the pictures and what was admittedly done with the stand alone washer and the pointing of one red beam lazer thermometer to an isolated water supply line that happily for me, isn't even at question here. From the truck conversation I had 20 minutes after the diagnosis where I requesting payment, I felt an awkard pose after he told me he would send a check, once again, after he asked the tenant "how it works". I told him I take credit and debit over the phone but he said a check would be in the mail four days later-and I did receive that on Tuesday so it was "mailed" on Monday. At this point I will also be satisfied with the outcome and "possibly" decline to use TT in the future-it may not be worth it for overly baring landlords that refuse to accept there own landlord issues and seek to blame others so easily. Asside from that, the accusations of "paranoia" indicate his true attitude. But, more importantly, since I wish now for this written record we are all receiving, if Mr. Wagoner leaves me a review that in any way relects his poor views of me when he wasn't even there, and further that I've never met him, I will take legal recourse. His accusations of paranoia really does stand out as poor taste. I do have a J.D. in law and know that this appears to be a set up. I ask Mr. Wagoner, is a libelous review where I lose business because of you really worth it over 65$ and the help I gave? It's your call. I really can't believe you'd think I intentionally caused a leak or even accidentally over a 65$ service call where I correctly diagnosed why your tenant was not able to properly wash dishes nor take more than a warm shower. But, libel is libel. Lee Ferguson" 5/30: Rodger, I would like to assist in this new developement if I can. 1. does it appear to be one on the rings on the white pipe that is leaking? 2. what is the condition of the inside of the pipe, clogged with goo? Please advise on these two items first. Lee

I had a great experience working with Jeff. His rate was very reasonable, and he stringed along an electrician with him to install a new washer drier in our house. He was able to clear his schedule to prioritize our job, to allow us to use our bathroom. He even gave us a sauna heater for free.

Had our kitchen cabinets painted, the painters did a great job! One important aspect I want to note is the respect these workers showed toward our house; removing their shoes, keeping the front door closed when possible, etc., etc. Very thoughtful and professional!

I found Johnny/Build N Save through Thumbtack, which is a lifesaver for people that have smaller projects. I needed the bathroom in my tiny house remodeled, including replacing a tub with a stand up shower and adding hook-ups for a washer/dryer. Johnny's quote came in on budget and he could start right away. I have to say this is the easiest remodel I've ever experienced. It seemed almost too good to be true. It was done on time and on budget. After I purchased my washer, there was a glitch with the plumbing so I gave Johnny a call and explained the situation. It was fixed within 48 hours.

Kurt Krinke is the handyman I’ve hired on four different projects with excellent results. A third party told me he was good. That was an understatement. His work is neat, precise, and done with the care for the client. Before beginning he arranged a schedule and outlined his charges. He arrived promptly. The first project was the installation of an Allure Resilient Vinyl floor in the kitchen. Kurt described pattern options, how the difference in the new material would affect the replacement of the molding, and the way he would work. His experience showed in the methodical way he worked, with attention to detail, and virtually no wasted material…one piece left over. The floor is beautiful, adding visual warmth to the room. An excellent job in just few hours. The second was a minor remodel of a laundry compartment in a bathroom. The size of a new washer and dryer required re-hanging or replacing a pair of sliding doors. Kurt’s initial approach appeared to match my ideas. However, I changed my mind, and Kurt was accepting of that. When he returned with materials, he had chosen tasteful, functional hardware which turned the half-day, creative project into a neat, convenient, pleasant-looking laundry area. Project three: a pantry built into a wall between studs with a door left over from project two. Kurt listened carefully to the idea, but before making any suggestions he took several measurements and scanned the wall for any hidden problems. His approach again was imaginative, and with pad in hand, he drew a sketch of what he would recommend and why. Kurt made sure the door-swing would be handy and miss the ceiling fixture. He purchased suitable materials and finished the project in a day. Even though the work had to be done in the house in cramped quarters, Kurt not only collected dust as he created it, he cleaned the area when done. The pantry turned out far beyond what I had envisioned and was completed in the same day. I am completely satisfied. Lastly, because of changes in carpeting, three different doors had to be trimmed to eliminate drag; two hinged doors, and a bi-fold. Kurt approached that task confidently, and did the work with a table saw he brought to the house. All work well now and done in about an hour. He is currently designing a bed frame for me, which is a project this handyman will really get into. Every once in a while someone comes along who really fits his or her profession, people who love their work, welcome challenges, and take pains toward excellence. Kurt impresses me as one of those people; he’s solution-minded, client-oriented, as well as a knowledgeable, skilled craftsman. I recommend him without hesitation or reservation.

Needed a washer repaired. He came out a couple days before Thanksgiving and told us it would be cheaper to buy a new washer than to repair it. We didn't want to buy a new washer since we are planning on moving, so he had a refurbished one of an almost exact model of ours and installed it with his brother 2 days later. Fast and efficient and friendly.

Augusto and Ruben installed plumbing for our renovation a few years back. Sinks, showers, kitchen, water heater, washers. Everything was done well, in a timely manner, and a fair price. They returned to install some new windows for the second phase. Same great results. Thank you both! We are planning to have them work on our new house in the near future.

We had just bought a new dryer and needed a new outlet installed. I emailed Scott and he came the next day right on time. Scott was polite and professional. Most importantly, he did not overcharge us! He performed a simple task for which some electricians working for large companies would have charged between $150-$200. Scott did great work and didn't charge us nearly that amount. If you need an electrician, you can't go wrong with Scott! We're planning on rewiring our house in the future and Scott is the guy we'll be calling.

Derick painted 2 of our bathrooms. One was larger with many cabinets and washer and dryer to move and work around. The other bathroom was painted chocolate and required careful second coat to the tectcured He painted this quickly. He is tall and barely needs a ladder to paint ceilings. He arrived at the time he said he would each day. He should raise his rates.

I'm cleaning out everything, from the clothes dryer's blower housing and vent pipe to the outside of the house. Lint build-up in these areas makes the dryer run hotter and takes twice as long to dry the clothes. I will clean out the vent pipe for $25.00 and the blower housing for $40.00 for a quicker drying time.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

    • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
    • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
    • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

    How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.
