I purchased a package of sessions for weight loss with Kate. This was about six months ago. I think she really helped me with controlling my food and relaxing. I've lost a few pounds and believe the hypnotherapy was very useful.

I have see Lauren four times over the last four months for hypnotherapy sessions related to weight loss. Weight loss is a "brain game" as well as healthy eating habits. My sessions with her have been the most rewarding and results oriented techniques I have ever used. She is a compassionate listener, and has a wonderful ability to help you see patterns of behavior that no longer serve you. Listening to my recordings of my sessions has helped me shift my behavior to healthier eating.

I'm a 67 year old female. Prisco was recommended to me in the early spring of this year. I trained with him twice a week. I've belonged to a gym for 5 years, but was feeling rather stuck. Prisco brought out the best in me! I became strong and confident! He has a knack for isolating problem areas and "fixing" whatever aches and pains I might have. During our time working together I shared with him that I was also stuck in my weight loss attempts. I had lost 30 pounds but my weight hadn't moved in over 2 years. He then began coaching me on my weight loss journey. Since late August I have lost 14 pounds with Prisco's guidance! When he moved from out area it left a giant hole in my life....BUT.... he still keeps up with me and I feel confident in continuing my journey! He is my trainer, my coach, and now my friend!

I went to see Laura for hypnotherapy related to weight-loss. I found her on groupon, so I figured I would go as many times in the deal. I've been seeing her now for over a year, and she has helped with not just weight-loss but so many of the other related and underlying issues through hypnotherapy, reiki and life coaching. She's incredibly easy to talk to, is very understanding and non-judgmental and helps you work through things with her and when you go home. I've made more progress in working through my own roadblocks with her than I ever have. Trying different kinds of therapy really allows you to explore different parts of yourself, and being able to do that with one person can help you and her get a whole picture on the story of you. I absolutely recommend her to any of my friends looking to start or restart therapy.

GREAT FOR WEIGHT LOSS AND HEALTHY LIVING My husband and I have tried a number of different diets over the years, and paid for gym memberships that we never used. Nothing ever seemed to work and, worse yet, we became one-another’s biggest enablers to cheat on diets and find excuses to not exercise. Finally we realized the little “band-aid” approach to weight loss that we tried and failed at so many times is simply not the answer…… but, what to do? One day after a lovely lunch at the Cabbage Patch Restaurant in Snohomish I noticed a Hypnosis for Change banner on a building across the street. I called the number and spoke with Linda, who is, by the way, a lovely person with sincere wishes to help people who are struggling with issues of any kind. Linda explained the sub-conscious is 90% of the mind and getting through to the sub-conscious and reprograming our thoughts and desires toward living a healthy lifestyle is key to making a lasting change. After learning Linda is a medically certified hypnotist that has realized a good success rate with her weight loss clients we decided the healthy lifestyle for lasting change approach sounded like exactly what we need. Linda puts our sessions on a CD for us (we are old school) and we listen to it a few more times to reinforce the positive messages. This approach is working for us, and we couldn’t be more pleased. We now find ourselves wanting to eat fresh fruits and vegetables instead of the junk food we used to crave, looking forward to exercising, and actually having fun at the gym. The truly amazing part is I never think about food. I used to think about food all the time, even when I was eating I would think about what to eat later. It’s working for my husband too. When we watch TV he no longer asks me whether we have any ice cream or whether I feel like having popcorn. I am loving living like this, and only wish we’d have done it sooner. Oh, and bonus, I am down ten pounds and losing. My husband doesn’t weigh himself, but says he can tell he has lost weight by the way his clothes fit (and I can see that he has). Major bonus, my blood sugar levels are dropping. We feel better, we look better, and we are having fun! This truly is the best thing we have ever done for ourselves, and the best money we have spent. We did this for ourselves as a Christmas present for one-another and I believe it will be the one gift we will never forget.

I went for motivational and weight loss sessions and the experience was incredible! Hazel is a gifted hypnotherapist and a pleasure to meet with. She is friendly, professional, and incredibly supportive. Her scheduling is flexible and her office is relaxing and has a great energy. I not only lost weight, but I have made the changes in my lifestyle to live healthier, and to keep the weight off. This was not a one time diet trick, it is a whole new, life long perspective on my health. I would absolutely recommend Hazel for hypnotherapy! It has been an amazing experience!

My experiences with Tamara have been wonderful. She is a great listener, empathetic and has zero judgement of the things I tell her. She is encouraging, effective, extremely responsive, kind when I forget the code (every time), she is professional but not in an uptight way and not overly "love and light" either, she is a great mix of both and does an amazing job. My sessions with her have been extremely helpful in the areas I've needed help with and in all aspects of my life. You may go for one reason say weight loss but you end up feeling better in all areas of your life. She asks the right questions to make you see things you didn't even realize were connected to what you are working on. Also, if I don't do my action items I'm not scolded like a little child, we figure out why I wasn't motivated to help myself. I think at times I forget that she is a guide not law enforcement (parent). She is worth every dollar I've spent and she is affordable enough that I can see her when I need to with some planning. I will never seek another hypnotherapist now that I have found her!!

I went to see Soheyla Shakerine to help with weight loss. My experience was very positive and she helped me to uncover very specific beliefs held by me that correlated to my weight gain. As a result of the time spent with Soheyla I experienced weight loss but more importantly learned valuable tools to help me through issues such as anxiety and other beliefs that added to my weight issues. I highly recommend visiting Soheyla for weight loss and as a life coach. My experience with her has had a tremendous impact in my life. My goal of having my own cooking show is close at hand all thanks to her guidance.

Katie, you helped me with more than just my weight – you helped me take back my self confidence and determination to be the person I want to be (and will to be!). You helped me figure out not the “what”, but the “why” behind my eating choices. AND that confidence has spread into my relationships at home and the office. I can’t thank you enough! In my book you are a miracle worker! You are awesome! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I went to Roger initially for help with insomnia. He made me a CD to play at bedtime, and that aloing with just a few sessions, made a real difference in my quality of sleep. Later I also got help for a stubborn weight loss issue--again with excellent results. Later on, I referred a friend to Roger to help her stop smoking and it worked perfectly. We are all so grateful for that miracle (after 20+ years of smoking!).

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    How does hypnosis work?

Hypnosis is a wellness technique that works by promoting positive behavioral or cognitive changes. During successful hypnosis, the client should be eased into a state of deep relaxation in which the conscious mind takes a back seat and the subconscious mind becomes more active. The client is often able to let go of critical thoughts and become receptive to the therapist’s suggestions. In this state of hypnosis, motivating suggestions can bypass your usual mental resistance and internal defense mechanisms. For example, even if you want to quit overeating cupcakes, you may have some level of resistance that your rational mind can’t overcome. During hypnosis, the positive suggestions made by the hypnotherapist can bypass your usual blocks, helping you to achieve the formerly unachievable: stopping overeating, quitting smoking, mastering public speaking, or losing your fear of heights. The goal of hypnosis is to strengthen and empower the client’s motivation, commitment and focus. Consider working with someone who is not just trained in hypnosis but also is a licensed therapist or psychotherapist who can bring their academic background into your session.

What can hypnosis help you with?

According to many sources including the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) which is part of the United States National Library of Medicine and a branch of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), hypnosis is scientifically proven to help relieve both mental challenges and physical pains. Hypnosis can alleviate stress and reduce pain after surgeries, has been shown to relieve anxiety in children in the emergency room, and can be useful for managing pain associated with everything from arthritis to migraines. Hypnosis is non-invasive and gives you a way to control pain or discomfort that might otherwise seem out of your hands. Hypnosis shouldn’t be used as a substitute for medical care, but may be an excellent complementary tool that is best provided by a trained therapist or licensed medical provider. The University of Maryland Medical Center shares many conditions for which hypnosis can be useful:

    • Irritable bowel syndrome
    • Tension headaches
    • Alopecia areata
    • Asthma
    • Phobias
    • Insomnia
    • Addictions
    • Bedwetting
    • Fibromyalgia
    • Labor and delivery
    • Skin disorders, such as acne, psoriasis and eczema (atopic dermatitis)
    • Stress
    • Tinnitus (ringing in the ears)
    • Cancer-related pain
    • Weight loss
    • Eating disorders
    • Warts
    • Indigestion (dyspepsia)
    • Post-traumatic stress disorder
    • Smoking cessation

How is hypnosis used in therapy?

Hypnosis is a powerful tool to help clients overcome challenging issues such as anxiety, phobias, pain management, hot flashes and more. Hypnosis is also a way to help let go of addictions like smoking, overeating and gambling. In and of itself, hypnosis is not a therapy, but it can be used in conjunction with therapy to empower and encourage the person receiving it to make positive change. Some people are more susceptible to hypnosis and will benefit more from hypnotherapy than others.

According to Dr. Clifford N. Lazarus, speaking for Psychology Today, hypnosis is a “genuine psychological phenomenon that has valid uses in clinical practice … hypnosis is a state of highly focused attention or concentration, often associated with relaxation, and heightened suggestibility. While under hypnosis (i.e., in a hypnotic trance), it seems many people are much more open to helpful suggestions than they usually are.” The suggestions made in a therapeutic setting get deep into a person’s brain, beyond their conscious thinking, leading to behavior change and the ability to overcome challenges that might otherwise seem insurmountable.

What is the effectiveness of hypnosis?

The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services recognizes the healing power of hypnosis and its proven effectiveness for anxiety, pain control, smoking cessation, headaches and more. Hypnosis may be safe and complementary way to augment medical attention you are receiving for a chronic illness or pain, or a way to resolve an addiction or phobia that you are otherwise unable to control. Hypnosis does not work on every person. When scientists began studying hypnosis in earnest, a report published by Stanford University titled “The Stanford Hypnotic Susceptibility Scale” demonstrated that different brains respond to hypnosis in varying degrees, and a very few do not respond at all. Working with a trained psychologist, you’ll soon determine whether you are a good candidate for the healing benefits of hypnotherapy.

During a hypnotherapy session, the therapist will bring you into a state of deep relaxation in which the critical, conscious part of your brain recedes and the subconscious mind becomes alert and focused. The therapist will make suggestions, based on your intended goals, that will take root in your subconscious mind. These suggestions should affect your thinking in a positive way and empower you to make change.
