Evan arrived promptly at the appointed time and cleaned the leaves from our gutters as agreed. He also made short work of a number of other tasks around the yard that I couldn't handle. He was careful to protect the house and garden and remove the debris that he created. We enjoyed his pleasant and professional manner, and look forward to hiring again next fall. --George, Riverwest

Linda is AWESOME! We moved into our new house and had rows and rows of rose bushes that we did not want. She started with a free consultation where she explained the process, pricing and timeline. We then went through pricturebooks to discuss what I wanted. I don't know anything about gardening so she basically figured out what I liked within a couple minutes and helped me choose some really good stuff. She explained how to properly remove the roses so I could give them away. She then removed and hauled away all our old mulch and prepped the yard. She knew our budget was tight so she found ways to save money. I asked her to include a few garden items we had (a cute bucket and engraved stone). She mad it look amazing and - a couple items haven't even fully bloomed yet and I have already received so many compliments. She worked her butt off and it is worth every penny. Not only is the end result absolutely beautiful, but I had a great time with her as well! She has a very fun personality, enjoys what she does, and treated my garden like her own! I recommend her times a thousand :)

Garrett did a great job In cleaning up my gardens and planting new plants. Everything looked great. It was easy to get a hold of him and talk to him about. He arrived and just went about doing the work. He checked with me often and did the job suprisingly fast. He is going to do a little more for me and I hope to have him back for other jobs. We are very happy with his work and friendly approach.

weed and mulch around trees, also install a rock garden quality work and I would hire him again however Horizon needs to do a written proposal, as there was some misunderstanding as to the cost of the project.

TG Martin came out on time and helped to create an inviting entry flower garden in my front yard. He had to manage the weather changes but he was there right away when he was able to. Completed on time as promised.

True Blue did an outstanding job of weeding and preparing the garden for next Spring. Had lots and lots of weeds. True Blue called, said they could come on the weekend for a very reasonable price. They came on Saturday and were done in a couple of hours. Wow! My front and back lawns look great now. They had offered to mow my lawn weekly for a great price. Just called them this morning and they came over right away to do it. I definitely plan to go back to them in the Spring for further landscaping work.

I needed lots of dirt and wood chips moved to my gardens and walk paths. No easy access, but Mike & Jeff worked steadily and accomplished the task! It snowed the night before, but they didn't complain about how "heavy " things were. I would hire from Campus Labor again! Wanda

Excellent communication regarding work to be performed. Work performed was of very high quality. Very satisfied. You can certainly pay much less for landscaping services, but in my experience you definitely get what you pay for - cheapest price = lowest quality work. Paul treats his customers with personalized attention to their landscaping needs.

I was in desperate need of having the lawn cut at my mother's house. They responded immediately, came out the next day, and charged an extremely fair rate. The lawn looks fantastic and they couldn't have been nicer. Great communication and wonderful to work with!!! Definitely hire them!!!

My experience with North Shore Gardens was excellent. Juan was very professional and pointed out a number of issues which other service providers missed. He gave me a very detailed proposal. Did the work promptly and well. His team was courteous and worked very hard. Juan replaced the entire outside drainage system on one side of my house where the existing 40 year old pipes were broken by tree roots. I am very happy with his work. I will be using him again to address a similar issue on the other side of my house. I had not done work with North Shore Gardens previously and asked for references. Juan supplied multiple references all of whom spoke highly of him and his company. I now see why. I am recommending North Shore Gardens to my neighbors (I live in a planned community where the homes are 40 + years old) all of whom face the same issue as I did.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to have landscaping done?

Professional landscaping can help reinvent your outdoor space, boost your curb appeal and get a major return on investment with. Landscaping can encompass anything from adding new plants, trees and shrubs, to leveling the ground and laying sod for a lawn, to building in hardscaping such as sidewalks, water features or retaining walls. The national average landscaping price is $10,160. Landscaping prices can be far lower (with hourly rates ranging from $50 to $150) if you’re only seeking professional help with softscaping or seeking consultation on landscape design. Softscaping means adding or changing horticultural elements, such as planting a garden or adding a hedge. Hardscaping is where costs can really start to rise. Hardscaping requires labor and heavy equipment to excavate the earth; you may need to pour concrete, or you may need a pro who can transport and place gravel and other inorganic elements. Your total landscaping cost will vary based on the amount of work you want done, how much labor is required, and the cost of the materials you are using. A good rule of thumb for a major landscaping project, according to the American Society of Landscape Architects, is to budget 5 percent to 10 percent of the value of your home.

How much does it cost to landscape your front yard?

Prices for landscaping your front yard can range from a few hundred dollars to tens of thousands of dollars, depending on the scale of your front yard project. Your landscaping price will reflect how much change you implement, how much labor is required, and the cost of materials.

Landscaping is typically made up of softscaping and hardscaping. Softscaping refers to selecting trees, bushes, flowers and plants to achieve a desired aesthetic and to meet goals such as having a drought-tolerant yard. Hardscaping refers to moving earth, installing structures, and putting in decorative stonework, sidewalks or lighting. For softscaping, you may want to hire a landscape designer to consult on your plants and layout, and then do the digging and planting yourself or hire a gardner to handle the heavy lifting. A landscape designer’s hourly rate may range from $50 to $150 or more. If you want a turnkey approach, meaning someone who works with you to create the vision and then executes all the work, landscaping pricing will typically come down to a cost per square foot rather than an hourly rate. It’s a solid investment: Great landscaping can add up to 28 percent value to your home.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
