I hired Lauren to help my 11 year old twins with math and English homework. She came to our home and worked with them both. Her first session was just yesterday. She impressed me in that she was incredibly patient and encouraging. She went above and beyond in that we had originally hired her for one hour but once she dug in with my son it became clear this was a longer project - she ended up staying at our house for 1 1/2 hours! After the first session, Lauren followed up with me. She provided a plan of action to get my children the help they need now and how to get them to where they can work more independently. It was wonderful. In my case, homework had become a tough, with my twins fighting over my time and questioning whether or not I really know how to do their math problems (I do, but not the way they are learning them!). Honestly, this is the best money I might ever spend. Now, homework is about a peaceful chance to work with a wonderful, qualified teacher rather than fight with mom about fractions!

Steve Byer is an excellent choice for an ACT tutor. As a mother of 4, I have been through many tutors. Steve Byer’s work with my daughter gave her a 4 point increase on her ACT, and brought her schools of choice within reach. Steve worked with her for about 16 hours over eight sessions to get her ready for the ACT. He used a variety of materials, including websites and prep books to help get her prepared for all the sections of the exam. Throughout the lessons, he kept detailed notes on her performance to help track improvement and kept us updated on her progress. What was especially notable were the increases in English (6-8pts) and Science (7pts). We highly recommend Steve for an ACT tutor as long as your child is prepared to do their part. My only wish was I had used him for my other 3 kids!!!

About

I was a home-school mom for over 10 years. So, although I am not a certified teacher, I am a mother who taught and directed three children in how to learn and learn independently. Primary grades are my specialty, especially reading skills, foundational math principles, spelling, and English language basics. While I home educated, I’ve managed an apartment building in Chicago, part-time. I have been managing this property for 24 years. It is a part-time position, and I am seeking additional work at this time. I really like kids (our house is too quiet), and I enjoy helping them get excited about reading and learning. Let me help your kids to lay the solid foundation they will need to love learning for the rest of their lives.

I am a Wisconsin State certified teacher, licensed to teach all subjects K-12. My master's degree is in special education, and I have worked as a private tutor for several years. The students I serve are those with some difficulty in school. This can be the effects of learning disabilities, ADD, or other diagnoses. Often times, students with dyslexia, autism or Asperger's are my clients. I can support students with homework completion and compensatory strategies for learning, and if the student has an IEP, I can work with those identified areas of need. I also can do academic assessments.
