Traci was hired for hair and make-up for a bridal party of 4 plus the bride. The trial run went excellent. She listened to what my sister (bride) wanted and it turned out beautiful. On the day of the wedding she did all four of us. Traci had a "plan of attack" that helped everything go as smoothly as possible. Even with all the interruptions, Traci stayed relaxed and determined. 2 of us girls have long hair and 2 of us have medium long hair. Traci did braids and curls and pinning. If something didn't lay right with our hair, she immediately corrected it without anyone asking her to. She wouldn't settle for less than perfection, but also in a timely manner. The hair and make-up lasted all night. My face normally flushes and turns red especially after a lot of dancing. With the air brush make-up she used it looked the same as when she put it on. My hair was really easy to take out at the end of the night. Traci didn't over use hair pins, but everyone's hair did stay secure. Traci is very friendly and we had a great time. The experience was great. It made such a difference doing it inside a house instead of going to the salon. I highly recommend Teaci for hair and make-up.

Patricia and the team she brought did an amazing job with myself, bridesmaids, and family. I'll start off by saying that my bridesmaids were very hesitant about getting their make up done, but I re-assured them that Patricia was the best and they saw for themselves on my wedding day! Everyone was extremely happy with their hair and make up, including myself! Every time an event goes by I look back at pictures and wonder why I did my make up like that or why did I decide to do my hair like that? Let me tell you, I look back at pictures of my hair and make up on my wedding day and am completely satisfied. Thank you Patricia!

She did an amazing job working with each individual person’s style request. Her pricing is very reasonable and she was great with staying in touch with me. Highly recommend!!

Working with Patricia was great! Before we met she was very responsive and answered all my questions. She was very sensitive to my needs and asked me detailed questions to make sure she was giving me the look I wanted. She made me feel at ease with the whole process. Not only can she do makeup, she is a wiz with hair! She did my hair and makeup for my bridal shower and I got tons of compliments. Hiring her again for my wedding day! Highly recommend.

I had the pleasure of seeing Allison grow from the beginning of her career. Going to her for a few years now, and I couldn't be happier! I've always been nervous to get my hair done and not trusting my hair stylist. Now, I only trust Allison to do my hair! If you get nervous about who does your hair then Allison is the girl for you! Everyone always asks me who does my hair, I feel like a walking model for her work. I ended up referring a few of my friends to her and they were beyond happy with their results every time. She listens to what you want and she incorporates your ideas with her professional and honest opinion. She always amazes me. She has a true art and passion for doing hair and makeup, it shows every time I have her do it. If you want a trusted , well educated, passionate and friendly hair/makeup stylist Allison is your girl! Definitley amazing at doing weddings as well. If you need anything done for prom, weddings or just because I highly recommend! :) Below are some pictures of Allison's work on my hair ! <3

This review is for anyone looking to make a change and needs a trustworthy and talented stylist. Katie is knowledgeable, skilled, and will give you a cut & color that makes you feel incredible when you walk out the door (and for weeks after.) Every single time the consultation is relaxed (but always maintains a high sense of professionalism). We've experimented with multiple colors over the years and each time our time together has ended in smiles, hugs, and another appointment already scheduled. Katie is amazing and the only person I will trust with my hair. 10 STARS!!!

I love working with Dani! she is very professional with my clients and does an amazing job with makeup and hair. As a professional photographer, having a great makeup artist helps tremendously with easing the client about their look and also great makeup reduces my editing time. Dani's work shows far better than other makeup artists i have worked with, her attention to details and the way she applies the makeup lasts the whole day during out shoots. Also she stays and touches up the look along with adjusting it and changing it with ease as we move through different outfits and themes. on top of all that She uses the best makeup brands a swell on my clients impresses them every time! I really recommend working with Dani, she is very friendly professional, a true artist and also very helpful on set.

Lina is a very knowledgeable stylist and she always takes care of my hair so that it's healthy. Unlike other stylists I've been to, she teaches me how to take care of my hair until I see her again. I've gone to her for many years for colors and cuts. My favorite look is when she dyed a few peek-a-boo strands red and kept the rest darker brown. My reds have now faded out to a more golden color and I get compliments ALL the time! I also visit the salon for deep conditioners because Lina always stresses the importance of keeping my hair healthy, especially since I'm always wanting to dye it.

          Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

          What is a hair extension?

A hair extension is a beauty product designed to give you the appearance of longer and/or fuller hair. Hair extensions are made of synthetic material or real human hair and are attached to your natural hair by a variety of techniques such as a weave (sewing), hot fusion, tape-in, cold fusion, bonding, metal clips, micro ring or micro loops, and more. The type of technique you select as well as the quality and volume of the hair you choose all affect cost. Hair extensions can last anywhere from three weeks to six months, depending on the application technique. For example, tape-in extensions may last approximately four weeks, while extensions applied using a hot fusion technique may stay in for up to six months. The hot fusion technique takes longer, costs more, and requires more training on the part of the hair stylist, but the result is more natural-looking extensions that can be washed and heat-styled with confidence.

          What is a mobile hairdresser?

A mobile hairdresser is a cosmetologist trained to cut, color and style hair who can provide hairdressing services at remote locations. Often, mobile hairdressers are hired for events such as weddings, bachelorette parties, prom night, birthdays and other occasions. The hairstylist can come to your location to do your hair, or provide hairstyling for your group.

For events, mobile hairstylists more often provide updos and formal styles than highlights or hair color. Mobile hairdressers bring all the necessary hairstyling tools and products such as lotions and sprays to create your look. The national average cost for a hairstylist is $70-$110. Pricing for different services can vary greatly depending on stylist reputation, training and regional rates. For example, haircuts could range between $35 and $150, while hair coloring services could range in price from $65 to $200. Some mobile hairstylists may include the cost of travel in their fees, while other may have it as an added charge, such as 50 cents to $1 for each mile beyond their standard service range.

How much should you tip a hairstylist?

A hairstylist can provide you with a cut, color or highlights, or style your hair for an event. The national average cost for a hairstylist is $70-$110, but prices can vary greatly depending on the service you receive, where you live, and the salon’s or hairdresser’s reputation. A good rule of thumb is to tip your hairstylist 20 percent of your total bill. In smaller towns, 15 percent may be the norm, but in larger cities 20 percent is generally the baseline. If you frequent a salon where the shampooer, colorist, and hair cutter are all different people, you can divide that 20 percent among those service providers in proportion to the skill level and time required to do their job. Many hairstylists rent a chair from the salon and must pay a monthly rent to the salon owner.

How much do hair extensions cost?

Hair extensions are synthetic or real human hair integrations that add volume and length to your hair. Hairstylists are trained in different techniques to attach extensions to your hair. The cost of extensions can vary greatly depending on the technique used to apply the hair, as well as the type of hair you select. Synthetic hair is typically the least expensive, human hair is next on the pricing scale, remy hair is next, and what is called “virgin” human hair is generally the most sought-after and most expensive. Remy hair signifies that all the cuticles are intact and running in the same direction, making for smoother hair extensions in the long term. Hair is deemed virgin when all the hair is from one donor and has never undergone any chemical processing. Hair prices will vary from company to company; here are some examples of hair from online retailers.

          • Virgin strands (25 strands weighing approximately 1 gram each) for hot fusion application: $44 per bundle.
          • Virgin hair weave (approximately 4 ounces per package): $149 each.

Here are some sample application costs from hairstylists.

          • Full sew-in: $175-$200 or more.
          • Partial sew-in: $125 or more.
          • Micro-link weft extensions: $300 or more.
          • Full-bonded extensions: $75 or more.

          What is a seamless extension?

A seamless hair extension is a type of clip-on hair extension. The extension hair is called the weft. Near the top of the weft, a metal clip mounted to the weft on a silicone base is used to attach the extension to your natural hair. In a traditional clip-on extension, the base that attaches the metal clip to the weft is fabric.

People may prefer seamless extensions due to their lower profile; the silicone can be up to 50 percent thinner than the fabric, making the extension appear more natural — and, therefore, seamless. Seamless extensions usually can be washed (although you shouldn’t keep them submerged for more than 20 seconds) and heat-styled on lower heat settings. You can gently brush seamless hair extensions as well as have them dyed a darker color by a trained professional.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
