About
I have developed my unique solo act through a number of cruise ship contracts, including the Norwegian Jade and Regent Seven Seas Mariner. My setlist includes songs ranging from jazz and classical to contemporary and classic rock. Through the use of my loop pedal or fingerstyle, I give each song a unique flair by playing both the melody and harmony on guitar. As an instructor, I have two and a half years of teaching experience through my position as a guitar/bass instructor at Matt Burk Music Studio in Allen, TX. I teach all ages and skill levels, along with music theory and composition. As a performer, I have played in multiple cover bands and original projects around the Dallas/Ft. Worth area after graduating with a BA in Music from the University of North Texas in 2014. Performing and teaching music has been the focus of my life since graduating high school in 2010. There is nothing else that brings me more joy than making audiences and students happy.

I had a wonderful experience with Matt. I am an intermediate level, self-taught guitar player and started the lessons with some random knowledge of music theory. Matt listened to me and helped me organize the music theory ideas into a solid foundation. After the 6 lessons, I am positioned to improve at a much faster rate. It is exciting. By my suggestion, our lessons typically involved discussing musical concepts (modes, scales, keys) and then doing quick jams to practice the concepts and "hear the differences". He plays guitar very well. This was apparent when he played rhythm guitar for me to try scales or when he took lead to showcase a musical idea. Overall, I highly recommend Matt. If you are interested in music theory, he was extremely knowledgable. Usefully, he was careful with vocabulary and was quick to recognize when I was misunderstanding a concept. Good luck Matt!

Matt is an awesome guitarist that really knows every aspect about music. His teaching style is very helpful, for he is patient, kind and corrective. He is also very flexible with lessons. I feel like I am a better guitarist already just from a few lessons from him. I highly recommend Matt to anyone that wants to start playing guitar or advance their skills!

Working with Matt for our wedding ceremony was such an amazing experience. He was so open to my ideas and what I was looking for. He gave us such a great piece of mind that our ceremony would be wonderful. We were so lucky to have hired Matt to play guitar at our wedding.
