John (Tri-County) wasn’t the least expensive, but had a good rating. John was prompt to look at the job to remove and install 4 new external doors and 2 storm doors. John commented he confused my job with a smaller job, but would honor his bid. Contract signed and start date set. Adjusted my work schedule to be home when work is being done and available for questions. Called John the day prior to scheduled start, his other commitments were not complete and unable to start. Changed the start date and I adjusted my work schedule. John called and cancelled due to another job, rescheduled again and I adjusted my work schedule. About 2 weeks after initial start date, John started the 2 day job and informed me he had to leave by 4pm for another job. Most of the day was spent on one entry point, removing and installing the door and storm door. John decided to install the storm door opposite the way it was, I was in the house and available to ask. After installed he explained why and how I would like it better, I explained why we had it the other way. It was already after noon and wanted to get the job done. John said he challenged himself to complete the next door in an hour…this door is between the house and garage, used multiple times a day and needs to be done well. He got it done, but definitely rushed, trim broken, drywall ripped back and the threshold would bow when stepped on…John indicated the threshold shouldn’t be stepped on anyway. He cleaned up, was gone by 4PM and would be back next day to finish. Overnight there was some snow and John called to cancel, due to commitment to clear snow and reschedule. Now almost a month after our initial start date, John calls when he should be in the yard and working, to inform me that “someone stolen the only keys to his truck”, had to get new ones made and would be late. Hours later he arrived and completed the work, had him fix the threshold issue. His work with doors is ok, the “fix” for the threshold was shims and they are continually working out and need to be pushed back in, the storm door opens reverse of what we wanted, same storm door has about a 1 inch gap at the top that John said he would fill in, one exterior door had the shipping spacers left on. I am handy enough to fix the small issues, the door swing we will just need to live with. My low marking is due to the lack of commitment to keep a schedule, lack of communication when making alteration, and lower quality.
