Millie was great! They cleaned our 5 bedroom, 2.5 bath home in just under two hours. My dog was at ease with them as well which was a big concern of mine since he's afraid of everyone. He warmed right of to them as they are big dog lovers. This was very comforting!

They were wonderful and understanding with my shy (and blind and hard of hearing) Cocker, and he was well taken care of while we were on vacation. He was so shy he was reluctant to go outside, which led to much more work than I ever expected! They texted regularly, and did a great job of letting me know how things were going. I would recommend them to anyone who is looking for caring dog walkerss.

Punctual, professional and very thorough! I would recommend Jess to anyone looking- she also didn't seem to be bothered one bit by my curious dogs who wanted to "help" her.

Savannah is wonderful with our two black labs; she takes them to the dog park on days we are not home until late. It is nice to know they are getting out, walked around the dog park, and not sitting in the house all day. The dogs love her.

Rick was awesome. He knew what he was talking about and helped me put everything in perspective. First he listened to what I had to say and then he put together a course of action to help my dog tackle his issues with resource guarding. Rick left me with written instructions on what we discussed so I couldn't forget anything. I would highly recommend Rick to help you train your new puppy or adult dog.

We worked with Sarah for 6 weeks with our dog, Diggie, on his visitor anxiety at our home. She was quick to diagnosis Diggie's issues and came every week ready with strategies and tools to help us. Sarah was always professional and knowledgable, answering all our questions, while still making us feel very comfortable with what we needed to do and providing us with feedback. After the 6 weeks, Diggie has come a long way, mastering basic commands that will help his anxiety and a plan to continue his progress. We would definitely recommend her to anyone who loves their dogs, but not their behaviors.

Katie was fantastic! She watched our 2 dogs and cat along with our home. Dogs were walked and she even brushed the cat and cleaned out the liter box. No dog droppings left in the yard either. Katie even kept up with dog hair from the German Shepherd. I think our house was cleaner than when we left and the animals weren't anxious at all. I give Katie a 10!! We will use her again soon and I am telling my family & friends.

I would highly recommend Julie to any of my friends (and have) that want to train their dogs. I like that she comes to your house. She was very helpful in giving me a different approach to training that is more my style of training. I have started using the techniques she has shown me in the past few days and my dog has shown improvements.

I was desperate for a dog walker when my local high schoolers went off to college. Todd has been great. Wally, my kind of tough mixed breed shelter dog really likes him and Todd has never let me down.

Christy is an excellent dog trainer and is very easy to talk to. I have not used other services from tail chasers but you can tell a lot about the integrity of an employer by that of their employees. I would feel confident hiring them to take care of my dog.

Michelle was great to work with and our dogs loved her. We hired Michelle to help us with our two dogs during our engagement photos as they would be in some photos and not in others. She walked them around the area and hung out with us when they were in the photos, helping to get their attention to the camera. It was a cold, windy day and she stuck with us with a great attitude. You can tell Michelle really loves dogs and walking and we were really glad we hired her.

Reuben watched our basset hound for 10 days when my husband and I were on vacation. My dog is a senior and needs medication twice a day but I had full confidence in him taking good care of her. He sent me photos, videos, and updates on her every day. She always looked so happy and relaxed. He even managed to teach her a bit of manners - to take food out of his hand gently. We hadn't been able to accomplish that! I would absolutely leave her with Reuben again.

She was a godsend for me. She handled my two dogs extremely well. She was prompt and if she was going to be delayed notified me. I would recommend her very highly and ask for her help again. The dogs that I had at my house during the 10 days I needed the help were large animals.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

    • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
    • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
    • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
    • What are your different walk routes?
    • When will you pick up and drop off?
    • How will we communicate?
    • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
    • What’s your cancellation policy?
    • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
    • How and how often do I pay you?
    • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

How much do dog walkers charge?

The cost of dog walking depends on several factors including length and frequency of dog walks, the number of dogs on the walk, distance to your house, and any additional services you request. The national average cost range for a dog walk is $10-$20, but that price will vary based on where you live in the country and the regional cost of living and doing business.

The longer the dog walk, the higher your costs will be. Dog walkers offer a range of walk lengths, from 15-minute potty breaks to long hikes of 120 minutes or more. For example, a dog walker may charge $15 for a 15-minute walk and $35 for a 35-minute walk. Requesting that your dog be the only animal on the walk will typically mean a higher cost than if you permit your dog to be walked in a pack of dogs. You may be able to get a discounted rate if you have more than one dog to be walked. For example, a professional dog walker may charge $28 for one dog or $33 for two dogs on a 60-minute walk. If you need additional help — like feeding the dogs or giving them medication — dog walkers may be able to provide this service at an additional fee. Dog walkers may charge higher rates for walking your dogs on holidays.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
