I was looking to do a lot of work in my backyard with weed and tree removal and tree trimming. Ron came out shortly after we connected on here and gave me quotes for everything I was even considering in order to give me options. I decided to start with weed and grass removal along our fence line. Although the job got delayed a few times due to all of the rain, Ron was always very responsive and communicated well to reschedule. Once he did make it out, he did very quality work and followed up to make sure I was happy with everything. I would definitely hire him again for future projects.

Marcelo called and set up an appointment for the next day to come over for an estimate. He arrived at the time he said he would and his estimate was a fair price. He said he would be able to trim the tree right away if we wanted. Since a branch of the tree was hanging over the roof of our house, we were happy to have him take care of it. He did a fast and efficient trimming of the tree and cleaned up all the branches, wood & leaves afterwards. Excellent work, pleasant to work with and excellent cleanup.

We recently had the pleasure of working with Dee and Hunter Home Solutions to clean up our recently vacated rental property. She and her crew cleaned out all the trash and debris left behind by the renter and cut and de-thatched the lawn. The house looks great and we know we won't have a problem re-renting it! Dee was friendly, efficient, and had great follow up to ensure we were satisfied with her work. We look forward to working with Dee and Hunter Home Solutions again in the future!

I hired Ben to cut down a tree in my yard that had been hit by a truck (along with one other tree that was dead and needed to come down) He came to do an estimate the same day I called, gave me a very fair price, and was able to schedule the removal for early the next week! He arrived on time and he and one other employee finished up the job in about an hour! I would definitely recommend his company if you need tree work done! If I need any other trees taken down I know who to call.

We had part of a tree snap off. We needed the rest of the tree removed. Quentin changed his schedule to start last Sunday. Got most of the tree down, came back Sunday finish cutting down the tree in the cold. Even through Quentin was having family concerns he still found the time to finish the job. I would recommend 1/2 price tree for there tree work.the job took 1 week to complete.

Awesome work!! Quick, thorough and very reasonable! Will recommend them to everyone; their professionalism cannot be beat! Being that my house is on a slight incline, taking the extra precautions during the long winter months is a MUST for our family! I even use them 4x/month during the summer for scheduled routine lawn maintenance! VERY NICE! The staff members are always friendly and always punctual. Thank you TCB!

Back in early May I had Bryan over to take down my 90+ year old Honey Locust . This tree was a monster ! Making the project more difficult we are located in Milwaukee and have a tiny yard . Bryan is a master at his craft. With the limited drop zone all of his drops were precise . I would definitely recommend Cowboy Cuts to anyone needing any tree work. Bryan is a true professional.

Tim is the hardest working landscape contractor I have ever had. He is fast, organized, knowledgeable and has a very diverse scope of work experience and tools to complete any outdoor project you might have. He not only completed the landscape needs, but also saw that I needed to have my gutters cleared and extensions on my downspouts. He also offered solutions to the flow of water runoff in front of my garage. Tim has earned my respect and I completely trust the work and recommendations he offers. He is a permanent contact for all my outdoor yard needs. I have decided to hire him for monthly maintenance.

I live in the Fitchburg area and I had Dahlk landscaping come by this past April for a yard clean up and trimming of a few small trees, it took them a couple days to fit me in their schedule but when they got to me they did a very good job for a reasonable price. I have known them for a couple years now as they have taken care of snow removal at my house for the past two seasons and I will be going through them this year as well. Jeff is very knowledgeable but he is not a big corporation so you feel fairly personal with him, I look forward to them coming back this next spring.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

    • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
    • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
