Jeff put up 700 feet of fencing and made gates to allow access to the larger fenced area. He did a better than excellent job. The objective of the fence was to ensure our dog would not be able to get out. He spent extra time to make sure the job was done to our satisfaction. He is very particular and wants to make sure the job is done right. We highly recommend his him.

I hired Bill to repair my vinyl fence and door which had been damaged by the wind. I was very pleased with the quality of his work and professionalism and thought his price was very fair. I will definitely use him again.

Terry did some drywall repair in my bathroom. The quote was fair and he was very responsive via text. He went to the store for me to pick up supplies and got the job done in a day. He even came back the next day to fix up a difficult spot. Overall a job well done!

We hired Mark to tear out vinyl tile from our 2 bathroom floors and replace it with ceramic. The price he quoted us was the price we paid and his work was fantastic. We had both our bathrooms finished in only 3 days total. Couldn't be any happier!

Hello Thumbtack, We recently purchased a house and my wife and I wanted a new fence to keep our dog in the yard. We used Steamatic and are very pleased with their estimate and overall "fence experience". The estimator who came out "shopped" with us to select the price and quality of fencing materials at Home Depot. Everything was delivered to our property after diggers hotline marked the utility and lot lines. The next morning the crew arrived and set concrete for the posts and wood panels. We have had bad storms with wind recently but the fence stands perfect and the dog is well kept in the yard while we are inside the house. Most recently we had Steamatic send a crew to replace roof shingles and new wide gutters. It rained last week pretty hard and everything is dry and well protected. Great workmanship and the price was good too! Alan S.

Eddy came to my house to fix a water damaged basement. I had to fix a wall and rip off around 300sqft of carpet and lay vinyl tiles I also needed to install the trims and install a closet door. Eddy did a FANTASTIC Job so patient and professional with all my requests. On the last day of job I had to leave for a party and he accomodated his schedule to leave and come back the next day to finish the work. It was really appreciated. Even the quality of work is no less then a profesional company in the market. YOu can see if for yourself in the before and after pics. I am just glad that I now have a great handyman. I am also going to employ him for some plumbing (sump pump insall) and landscaping (putting up a fence) work. He does that too and I would assume with the same level of devotion and quality with which he did my basement. In short, he is a ONE MAN ARMY in the truest sense.

I hired Stateline Deck & Fence to build a small (8"x12") deck. I am extremely pleased and I highly recommend them. They were easy to work with and the value of the finished deck far exceeds my expectations for the price. My background is in computers, so carpentry is not something I know a lot about. A couple of years ago, I tried using a big box retailer to subcontract a deck and it was a total disaster. They sent unqualified people and it was such a nightmare that I waited over a year before taking a different approach and hiring a carpenter myself. Although it was a miserable experience, I sure learned a lot. I learned to make sure that the person in charge is educated and qualified to do the work. When I met William Cunningham, I had no doubts that he was the right man for the job. He answered all my questions and concerns clearly and left me feeling like I could depend on him to get the job done right. I have many friends and family that are contractors, and I have great respect for their work ethic, but I also value education very highly. Being able to hire a carpenter with a college degree gave me even more confidence that this would be a completely different experience than what I had to deal with using the national big box company. Once construction began, William was onsite himself for the entirety of the project. Along with one other workman, he completed the deck in only a couple of days and made sure to let me know that he guaranteed his work. They were very polite, clean, and surprisingly quiet. It was very easy for me to work in my home office while they worked outside. It has been over a month since the deck was completed. My wife and I love it and spend most evenings out on it grilling and relaxing. I have received many compliments for the craftsmanship and even have had friends who paid obscene amounts of money for composite decks express envy for my simple little wooden deck escape. I cannot stress enough that this is the company that you want to hire. I plan on using them in the future and I am very grateful to have come across them. Did I mention that they were by far the lowest estimate? Just awesome, thank you again.

Juan and his team were fantastic! They were punctual, efficient, and got the job done within the time frame they gave me! They even cleaned up after themselves everyday. They changed my entire lower level flooring for me (originally I only wanted the kitchen and foyer but later changed my mind and they were very accommodating). They changed vinyl flooring from the kitchen, foyer, powder room, and laundry room and carpet from living and dining room. I had them put tile in the kitchen and it was fantastic!!! The detail on the way they did it was amazing! I had them put wood the rest of the areas! There were some minor things we wanted fixed And it was taken care of immediately. I will definitely recommend Juan and his team! Looking forward to working with them again on another project.

All Style Fencing did an outstanding job putting up Cedar Fencing in our yard. The Fence was of excellent quality. They held to their schedule of when it would be installed. Their workmanship was very professional. They cleaned up the area where they worked as if no one was ever there, no ruts or debris was left behind. My husband was a contractor and was very impressed. We have recommended them to family, and friends.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How much does it cost to install a fence gate?

Adding a gate to your fence can be a practical way to provide access to a yard, work area or outdoor living space while ensuring safety and privacy. Gate installation costs will vary based on the gate material you select, the size of your gate, whether you install a fence at the same time, and any special features you’d like to add. Standard opening size for a single-wide gate is 4 feet; a double-wide gate is 8 feet. A small gate may be for decoration; a double-wide gate can be mounted on a rolling caster system to allow access for cars or wide loads. Here are some examples of average fence gate installation costs:

      • 4-foot, single-swing chain-link gate: $100 for materials and installation costs.
      • 28-foot wheeled chain-link gate on a caster system: $800-$1,000 for materials and installation costs.
      • 4-foot, single-swing wood gate: $75.
      • 8-foot double-wide wood gate: $150.
      • 4-foot white vinyl walk-through gate: $300–$400 for materials and installation costs.
      • 8-foot, double-wide white vinyl gate: about $800 for materials and installation costs.
      • White vinyl gate fence more than 8 feet wide: $1,200-$1,500 for materials and installation.
      • Arched black powder-coated aluminum pool gates: $175-$200 per gate.

How much does it cost to install a wood fence?

Help define your property line, protect your home and yard, and boost your curb appeal with a new wood fence. The national average for wood fence installation cost is $3,250. Wood fence installation costs will vary based on your geographic location, the type of wood you select, the height and style of wood fence you desire, and the condition of your property. Pressure-treated pine is a common and attractive choice that is usually resilient against rot and bugs. Cedar is another budget-friendly option that, although more expensive than pressure-treated pine, can be more affordable than redwood or teak. A wood fence requires maintenance to ensure its long-term health and beauty, so keep future staining and painting costs in mind when you’re calculating fence installation costs. Here are some examples of how height and material affect the approximate cost of wood fences:

      • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $15-$17 per linear foot.
      • 4-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $13-$20 per linear foot.
      • Cedar fence: $18-$25 per linear foot.
      • 6-foot-high, double-sided (meaning both sides are uniform), pressure-treated pine fence with 6x6 posts: $25 per linear foot.
      • 12-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with custom detailing: $75 per linear foot.
      • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with a custom lattice top: $30-$50 per linear foot.
