Introduction: When I decided to pursue my yoga teacher training, I thought a lot about how and where I wanted to train. I was living in New York City at the time, so my options were almost endless. I decided to train in India because I felt that was the most authentic way for me to learn about yoga's roots. My teachers were all Indian and had been studying yoga for decades. While many training programs in the States may be excellent, I feel I have a very strong understanding of and appreciation for yoga's history, as well as the spiritual aspects of the practice, that would not have been available to me had I chosen to study in the US. I feel my perspective is therefore quite unique, especially in this area. The looks on my students' faces after class! I've never heard anyone say, "Gee, I'm really sorry I went to yoga class today!" A thoughtful, well-balanced class will leave everyone in the room feeling better afterwards.

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have taken some continuing education. Yoga Alliance requires that teachers take a minimum of 10 hours a year of CE. I generally try to take a minimum of two workshops per year. My goal is to eventually complete my 300 hours advanced teaching certification.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Be clear about what you want. Do you need to improve flexibility? Are you just stressed out and seeking some balance? Are you trying to lose weight? Tell me about any injuries up front. Be clear about your expectations, and I will honestly tell you if I can deliver!

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

I think there's a type of yoga for just about every body. For people who are very stressed or recovering from an injury, restorative yoga is an amazing tool! For fitness buffs, an Ashtanga class will leave you sweating. For those just dipping their toe into the yoga water, a good basics teacher will gently guide you and make it a rewarding experience for you.
