FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to get to know the student and figure out what kind of music they like and why they want to play piano. I like to start my younger students in a Piano Adventures curriculum to begin a solid musician basis, but add on any fun songs they want to learn. Older students will depend on where their musical abilities are at, but I make sure to give structure and begin moving them forward in their knowledge and abilities.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have my bachelors in classical piano. I've taught students privately for three years and taught at a rock music school for one.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
A few years ago I was hired by a family through a personal connection. The two kids were forced to take piano lessons and strongly disliked their current piano teacher at the time. When I came in I tried to listen to what the students wanted to learn (the parents wanted this as well) and edited what we were working on accordingly. I also added in prizes and stickers to encourage practicing. The students now look forward to their piano lessons and gladly practice on their own. It was highly rewarding for me when I realized I helped music be an enjoyable part of their life because that's what it should be. That's when I decided I wanted to be a teacher.
