Introduction: I am an outgoing, exuberant music enthusiast, professional musician and music educator. Why is that important? Because not only will you learn how to play the drum set, you will have fun! My overall goal for all of my students is to give them the ability to express themselves through their instrument.
I customize lessons for each student. I have no set rubric, instead I find the needs of my students and create lessons specifically for them. There is no step 1, step 2, step 3 etc. Some of my students may need to do step 1, step 7, step 3 etc. in order to maximize their learning.
Students will learn technical skills, music notation, improvisation, contemporary repertoire (i.e songs) as well as composition.
I hold a Master Degree in Music Education and have been teaching for the last 14 years in the Boston area. I have also done extensive touring and recording throughout the US and Europe.
Let's get real. Music is FUN!!!! I love music, music is my life and it has brought me joy ever since I picked up my first pair of drum sticks at the age of 9. I have been blessed to have many amazing teachers throughout my formative years and my greatest goal is to give to my students all the wonderful things they gave to me.
I teach with a sense of humor, if you ain't smiling I ain't doing my job. My job isn't just to make you learn, it's to make you WANT to learn.

My 11 year old has been learning from Matt for more than a year now. Matt is a fantastic teacher. He has instilled a love of music and drums in my son. Matt is not only a great drummer, but also knows how to relate to young folk and keep the sessions interesting with humor. My kid loves his jokes and thinks Matt is way cool! Matt can teach both at his studio or at your home. My kid likes to go to his studio, since he has drumsets, guitars and a piano there. Matt will often teach a lesson and then intersperse it with jamming on the guitar and singing, while my kid drums. It is very motivating to see how all the pieces work together. Matt is also flexible, easygoing and friendly. It is difficult to find a teacher who is excellent at what he does AND can keep kids motivated with humor AND is an overall great guy! Matt also teaches adults. I strongly recommend Matt as a teacher for you or your kid!

Matt has taught both my kids. He taught my daughter the electric bass and continues to coach my son on drums. My kids loved him from day one and felt comfortable and relatable to him. Somehow he manages to get them to learn without having them feel as though it's a chore. He's been teaching them for about six years now, and to this family, he's become much more, he's become a sounding board, a career coach, and now a friend. Young and old, I honestly believe he could teach anyone and they'd have fun and walk away knowing something from day one.
