FAQs
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
We live in a digital era; if you're not getting unlimited digital rights to your photos you're not getting a fair deal. Your photographer probably won't release all of the photos they take to you because post-processing is time intensive and part of the product they provide, but those images they deliver to you should come with a non-exclusive, unlimited-use copyright release. If you're looking at wedding photography you need to make sure they have a backup solution available and that they're taking care of your memories. Weddings can't really be re-shot if the photos are lost in a hard-drive crash.
- What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
What do you want these photos for? What tone do you want to set with them? What do you imagine will be the story behind these images in a decade or more? Consider these questions before doing any photography but especially before hiring a wedding photographer. Group photos are one of the most painful parts of any wedding and the vast majority of them are discarded or forgotten. Save your time and your photography budget for the images you'll really treasure -- candid shots of the ceremony and reception, getting ready, first looks, etc. A good test is: if you don't already know its going to be printed out and put into a frame, don't bother with the time and hassle involved in doing that formal portrait on your wedding day.
