- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I was born with a natural gift for design, color and placement of furniture. I also could walk into a room and feel the energy. If I felt it was stagnate, I would move things around allowing the good flow of "chi" (energy) to enter and leave the room. At the young age of 9, I was rearranging, editing or painting walls in the house I grew up in. "It came natural to me." In my past career, I was a home decor accessory buyer for a specialty retail store. I was fortunate to attend many of the gift and furniture markets such as Dallas, Atlanta, New York and High Point Gift and Furniture Markets. Reading articles on design in magazines, the internet and technical manual helped round out my informal education. DIY projects, sharing decorating tips with friend and redecorating my own home have been the hands on part of my education. I am now in my third career phase which is Interior Design. This time moving forward with more passion than ever.
- Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
My most recent project I worked on was a kitchen cabinet door refacing or face-lift project. The client was a former neighbor of mine. She recently purchased a home and was doing some modest upgrades throughout the house. I had given my kitchen cabinet doors a face-lift about three years ago. I applied a paintable textured wallpaper to the fronts of my cabinet doors to hide any blemishes. Giving the doors a fresh, modern and updated look. My neighbor loved the way my cabinet doors turned out. So, she hired me to create the same look for her cabinet doors. When I finished the project, she was elated with excitement and joy. She had a grin from cheek to cheek. I could not have been more pleased. The project from start to finish to about five days.
