Introduction: Thank you for stopping by! My name is Darrick and I run Driftwood Studio out of La Jolla in San Diego, CA. What sets Driftwood apart from many studios and recording/mixing services is that I come to you. I have a mobile recording rig and a stationary set up that allows me to record the raw tracks wherever the artist or talent feels comfortable and then I take them back into my workspace to edit, mix, and master them. The end results are tracks that come together to become a professional sounding product that the artist is proud to share with their fans and audience. Driftwood Studio provides everything one will need to record their projects and songs in a relaxed and creative environment while yielding the results that they would expect. I offer everything required to make a complete album or EP. I record the raw tracks so that the quality of the recording will translate into a clean and full mix. I edit the audio so that it is exactly what is required to make it sound and flow the way that the artist or talent intended it to. I process and balance the tracks so they meld together to be a rich and intriguing mix which blends together seamlessly and cohesively. Finally I master all of the tracks so that all the songs on the album/EP flow together and translate well on any listening device in any listening environment. I can also help you with your own home or project studio. I will show you everything you need to get up and running from mic'ing techniques to setting up your computer and recording software to actually recording and editing audio as well as designing and acoustically treating your listening and recording environment. I have been fascinated with recording music since I was 12 years old attempting to multitrack my horrible playing by using two cassette recorders to primitively overdub my playing onto one tape. When I was 15 or 16 I finally saved up enough money to buy a Tascam 4-Track recorder and a couple of Radio Shack mics and I was able to make slightly better recordings. As the years went by and technology became better (and my income increased) so did my set up and my talents as a Recording Engineer. As a person who always wants to learn and be better, I have spent countless hours reading books/magazines/blogs/websites and watching videos on the art of recording and mixing audio along with even more countless hours experimenting and honing my skills by pushing faders, twisting knobs, trying different mic'ing techniques and setups, and learning my equipment and the effect each little tweak makes on the sound.

I'm not just writing a good review because Darrick is a bandmate, friend, and all around good guy. He is truly a master of his craft! It doesn't matter if it's classical, country, or raw nasty punk rock, Darrick has a true knack for making the most out of your performance. Not only is he a phenomenal engineer, he's a talented producer (whether he admits it or not). He's taken my lead handed guitar playing to a level I never thought possible. He'll motivate you when you feel like you can't even play a simple Emaj chord, and He will always push you to give your best! I can think of very few people I'd rather record with! And for what it's worth, I just heard un-mastered, almost finished mixes of the record we just finished, and the sound quality is better than 75% of the crap being released by big name studios with nearly unlimited budgets!

Darrick was quick to respond to our initial request for info and services...His mobile recording studio is awesome, recorded everyone together (at our request) and did wonders with the mixes and mastering. He is very open to all requests/suggestions during the editing process, kept us upto date with where he was in the process, sending us samples and revisions until we were fully satisfied. His pricing is definitely customer friendly, will definitely get you the best bang for your buck as far as quality/sound. Again, great to work with, awesome experience, and we will definitely be coming back to him in the future. Stefan
