Language Tutoring and Translation by Roslyn Raney
Introduction: I am an experienced and enthusiastic foreign language tutor and translator. My languages are German, French and Spanish. In addition, I have a working knowledge of most languages spoken in Europe! I travel to Europe frequently to keep up with friends, cultures and languages.
I have my Ph.D in German from the University of California, Berkeley, where I also studied French and Linguistics extensively. While on the faculty in Linguistics, English and German at San Jose State University, I also studied Spanish at an advanced level. I am now retired from SJSU and from the College of San Mateo, where I taught German. I really enjoy tutoring students in my three foreign languages.
My focus is on adult students, whom I often prepare for travel. I am also happy to help high school students improve their performance in language classes!
For my translation business, I specialize in the humanities, social sciences and genealogy. When I'm not tutoring or translating, I enjoy traveling, my friends, my cats, swimming, and my lifelong hobby as an amateur classical musician.

I took many semesters of German at College of San Mateo with Dr. Raney and she was by far one of the best German professors I've ever had the privilege of knowing. She is patient, brilliant, and very creative in the way in which she teaches a foreign language. She encouraged me and gave up much of her own time to support my desire to improve my language skills. Her dedication and knowledge of German (and I assume in other languages too) is amazing.

Roslyn is absolutely wonderful! She is extremely patient and has a very thoughtful teaching style. Roslyn was also very prepared for our first meeting. She took the time to research the countries that I will be visiting so that we can plan our lessons around my trip, and even brought books for us to reference. I will continue to use her services and I will definitely recommend her to friends and family.
