Best wishes on your home improvement projects ~Walter ______________________________________________________________________ I try to offer best value. I take great pride in craftsmanship and I want my installations to last as long as possible. I encourage people to look above the bottom line when reviewing quotes for their projects. If someone is offering only 10 percent of the work and materials for half the price, that is actually not a good value. I have 33 years of field knowledge and experience in building repairs, construction, modification, and upgrades. I am strong and healthy and generally do not require assistance. I proceed with an older fashioned methodical intelligent approach to home improvement, focused more on marching projects forward with no steps backward (I will refuse to do something wrong or badly out of order) as opposed to cutting corners and skipping steps. In my experience, the deadlines end up matching very equally, however you ended up overall with more quality for your investment. I also offer free competitive estimates and bids for quality work done properly. (If the manufacturer recommends 4 nails per shingle for example, that is how many I will put, even though only 2 per shingle would be twice as fast)
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I offer an immediate phone consultation and advice, and ask whether the hourly rate is suitable or if they would prefer a free estimate. If my schedule is open I put out as many estimates as I can. Once I am on a project it is my main focus. Bidding comes secondary. It is not rude, it is customer loyalty. No one could pull me off of your job either.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I was blessed with a knack for building. Many of my family members were involved in drafting, development, contracting, subcontracting, carpentry and remodeling. I was pulling nails on sites at 5 years old. I stood out strongly in 4H carpentry in elementary school as a child. At an early age I was blessed with some elderly widows who allowed me to make mistakes learning to fix houses, as long as I fixed the mistakes I made (those ladies taught me a lot more than how to fix houses). Throughout all of these years, I have also had the opportunity to work with masters of many trades, when things would get slow, I would go work, mostly for job training, with tradesmen I was impressed with in regard to ethics and quality workmanship. Present day, I remain a strongly skilled student and still seek to learn new things regarding home improvements (mostly product or equipment now, I do however keep an open mind when I work with others, otherwise, I may not have even found out about Thumbtack for several more years :)
