Michelle Shuttleworth Towler’s most recent students include a Tony nominated musical theater performer, a dancer about to make her Broadway debut, a singer-songwriter 3000 miles away in California and non-professional voice students in New York and around the world. Michelle maintains a private studio in Manhattan as well as a position teaching Singing at the Broadway Training Center. She specializes in creating highly personalized and comprehensive lessons which train the voice physically, mentally and artistically.
Since the start of teaching privately in New York in 2007, her students have been cast professionally in Broadway shows, tours, parks and cruises, and film and television in NYC and regionally. Michelle's younger students have been accepted to NYC performing arts high schools including LaGuardia and Frank Sinatra and sung in high level performances ranging from the Carnegie Hall Pops Gala, musicals for the NY Gilbert and Sullivan Players to the the prestigious National Children's Chorus.
While helping her students fine tune their musical artistry, Michelle makes vocal health a top priority. Michelle has taken part in the National Association of Teachers of Singing Mentorship Program. Through this, she studied with world class musical theater voice instructors to enhance her own pedagogical skills. She spends time observing otolaryngologists, speech pathologists and singing specialists at the NYU Voice Center, attends panels at Weill Cornell and hears vocal cases presented at Columbia University Medical Center. She continues to take courses in vocal anatomy and physiology to ensure she can give her students the best vocal education possible.
In addition to teaching, Michelle was a co-founder/owner of Footlights Entertainment, an NYC-based company providing live entertainment for high end private and corporate events. She served as Director of the Buck Hill Sky Top Music Festival Educational Outreach Program, which delivers high quality arts education to students in the Pocono Mountain area. Michelle has also taught at the Pittsburgh Musical Theater Conservatory and Applause Theatrical Workshops in NYC and Westchester, where she served as Director of their Summer Theater Program. She recently taught Singing courses for the Professional Performing Arts School in Manhattan.
Michelle began her performing career in regional musical theater (Pittsburgh Musical Theater) before coming to New York and launching a new phase of performing in commercials and television (Herbal Essences "Blonde", MTV's I Remember Chloe - scripted series). Following that, Michelle returned to her love of singing in NYC musical performances, concerts and religious solo work. In founding Footlights Entertainment, she was able to construct and perform in high end live musical events and corporate cabarets featuring Broadway music, jazz standards and pop music for clients such as Remy Martin USA, L'Oreal, Microsoft, Bloomingdale's Barclays Center and the 34th Street Partnership.
