Introduction: Hi! I'm Jac, I'm a New York City based vocal technician. Your choice of teacher is one of the most important decisions you can make as an artist or as a parent. I have extensive experience working in education and have been a teacher, both classroom and private for nearly ten years. Collaborations as a performer have included performing alongside Tony Award Winner Ben Vereen, Grammy Award Winners Chaka Kahn and Faith Esham and many other notable artists. I hold a B.F.A. in Musical Theatre from Sam Houston State University. Continuing education includes Somatic Voicework the Lovetri Method, John Henny Contemporary Voice Teacher Academy and The Esper Studio Two Year professional acting program. I have also worked professionally as an opera singer, broadway performer, recording artist and singer in many live bands. Most importantly, I have an extensive knowledge of the science behind singing. I've been trained in Somatic Voiceworks and CVTA, which focus on the anatomy and physiology and functionality of the voice. Which means, I know exactly how to help you sing, while avoiding the formation of damaging habits. And yes! I belt! So do my students. :) I regularly work as a teacher and coach for studio musicians and Broadway professionals as well as children, teens and adults who are just starting out. I am wildly passionate about the development of my students both professionally and personally. Jac is absolutely amazing especially for anyone just starting out! I’m a dancer who had no vocal training prior to starting with her and now I feel like I can go into an audition without being absolutely terrified by the singing cut. She’s incredibly knowledgeable about all aspects of the voice and ensures to make proper vocal technique a priority. She also personalizes a book for each student and gives excellent audition coaching. I absolutely love love love working with her! THE BEST <3

I've taken voice lessons from a handful of teachers before Jac, and will take from no else after taking from her! Her knowledge of the voice is immensive, she understands how to teach to different learning types and she is EXPERT in many different styles of singing which I find to be very helpful as a student. I originally came to Jac for help with musical theater auditioning, but what really surprised me was the tricks and tools she knew to help you not only hear the difference in your voice but FEEL the differences too. Of course since I came to her for audition help she has not only helped me build a book of appropriate song for roles I'd be up for, but also understanding how to fill out your book with rep that is balanced.

If you want to learn singing, become good at it and advance I'd recommend Jac Grady as a voice teacher. Her lessons are well structured and cover a significant area of singing technique and music. Jac's interaction with her students is very professional and positive.

As a performer, Jac Grady’s talent, professionalism, and musicianship are extraordinary. After many years of seeing her perform onstage, I worked lights and sound for her Houston vocal studio’s final performance. It was during this rehearsal process that I first had the privilege of seeing Jac’s teaching process in action. Her patience, compassion, and dedication to her young students was astounding. It is difficult to imagine that she could have another gift that matches her incomparable singing voice until you see her with students. When I moved to NYC myself, Jac was the obvious choice for voice lessons. What I appreciate about Jac’s teaching is her extensive knowledge of the human voice and surrounding anatomy. When she worked with me on addressing my neck tension and vibrato she Illustrated and clearly explained what my voice and body were doing and what they should be doing. She never made me feel ashamed or embarrassed or stupid, which is especially important in having a productive creative relationship. Jac is patient but also firm - she believes in her students’ potential and will push you to see the same. MOST importantly Jac is careful with her younger students voices - so much damage can be caused to the voice at that age if the instructor does not teach proper technique!

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
An hour is $65. With most private teachers in New York charging between $90-$200 per lesson, I thought long and hard about my rates. I decided for me, it is extremely important to be affordable and accessible. I care about your development as an artist and I understand what it is to have the urgent desire to improve but not necessarily the disposable income.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We will meet, I will do a vocal assessment, we will talk about your plans, hopes and goals and what you hope to achieve through the process of working with a voice teacher. We will also map out a plan of how to get there!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Fifteen years experience as a performer (theatre, opera, recording artist) and ten years as a teacher privately and in classrooms. Undergraduate degree in Musical Theatre, Somatic Voiceworks Certification, William Esper Professional Two Year Training Program. Additional Training in Alexander Technique.
