FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My base fee for thumbtack is $185.00. This covers Manhattan. If it has been over a year since the piano was tuned it may need a minor pitch adjustment. This tuning would be $220. However, some areas of New York outside of Manhattan may cost $10-$90 more due to extra travel time. Some pianos may need double tunings, or pitch raises/lowers if they have not been tuned in 2 or more years. This is $90.00 extra. So a double tuning would cost $260.00. If a piano hasn't been tuned in many years and is a half step flat it may require an additional visit in 2 weeks to a month. I charge - the normal tuning fee for this. I charge from $120.00-$165.00 for piano evaluations depending on location. For a complete price breakdown please check my website.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to talk to them. I try to find out when the piano was last serviced, if all the notes are working properly, what the make, model and type of piano it is, if it was moved recently, where they are located and what times work best for them. This way I can give them as accurate a price estimate as possible.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I worked at 2 rebuilding shops. One rebuilt mostly Steinway Grand pianos. The other one did more older uprights and player pianos. I also took the Randy Potter corespondice course and was trained hands on by a piano technician who was a friend of the family. In addition I attended many lectures and seminars to supplement my training.
