Doug has been a reliable, trustworthy handyman for me on several projects - from minor issues to total room remodels. He is, by far, the most experienced handyman, with the most integrity, I have ever hired.

Doug assisted with upgrading a bathroom. He's very personable. He gave me an estimate but after four hours on the job told me he would need $500 more. Because it was harder than he expected. He didn't listen when I told him facts of the construction. Arrived late, stayed late. Would call to say I'm on the way arrived two hours later. Plumbing work very satisfactory. Tile work not so much. I can see the tile adhesive in places where there should be grout. He selected the grout color. The ceiling he replaced is beautiful, excellent job on that. I have white tile in the shower, I wanted white grout, he chose gray which emphasizes the fact that lines/ spaces are uneven. I did not mind having him in my house, I trusted his honesty in that respect. I am still cleaning paint and grout splatters from my kitchen sink area where he cleaned his tools etc. I have an outside faucet on the porch and a sink in my laundry room. (he didn't ask where he should clean up). Would I hire him again? Probably, but I would put EVERYTHING in writing. Things I normally wouldn't think necessary to define prior to agreeing on a job. Potential is there. July 30, 2017 I was very quick to post my review. It's now time to update it. About two weeks after my bathroom was completed, I notice an anomaly in the laminate flooring in the room adjacent to the bathroom. I thought to give it time, maybe I was imagining it, or it had been there all the time. I try not jump to conclusions before I have the facts.. As time went on I noticed the spot growing, with summer visitors and a business trip, I really tried not to notice the problem. However, it has grown from a two inch spot to two separate areas that measure about 12x4 in inches. We investigated behind the newly installed vanity and there is a leak at the cut off valves. I can't do the repair. I'm elderly (79) and depend on those I hire to do a good job. At this point I need to say, Doug called his father in to do the plumbing. He worked on hit a bit of time even going to purchase additional supplies because he couldn't contain a leak. I didn't call Doug until the week beginning July 23 because when I dialed the number I got a message that the owner of the number was not receiving calls. I went on Thumbtack and called a number posted on the page Doug had used to contact me earlier. Doug answered immediately but acted like he didn't know who I was. That's fishy because you don't spend a week working in someone's house and forget who they are. He right away wanted to know how I got that number. I told him on Thumbtack. He then mumbled he was busy, got stuff going con and when pressed said he'd come look at the problem Friday, the 28th but it would have to be after 5. I said, fine I'll see you Friday after Five. Not so...I called at 2:30 to remind him, voice mail, left a message...called again 4:30, same thing, I left a message. Yesterday I tried to call him, blocking my number. After two rings, my screen notified me call was disconnected. All I want is for him to repair the leak. Hopefully after the water is stopped, the laminate will dry enough that there will be no flooring problem. If it gets done in time I won't have to replace the entire room flooring. It's a 14x11 room so that will be expensive to replace since I can't match it. I do not think I'm being unreasonable. I think maybe Doug Dosent want to tell his dad the job must be redone. I think also he didn't want Thumbtack to know he's not doing all the work he says he can do. So for that I'm changing my star rating to none, until I get this resolved. If you're looking for a handyman you can trust to stand behind his work, I'd keep looking.
Dedes Homeworks LLC's reply
To respond to Joyce's review, I came out right away to give her a estimate.the estimate I gave her was pretty reasonable at first.then she started to proceed and give me a sob story about her late husband, and how he would do the work if he was still alive and how great he was at fixing things.then she started to cry a little so I comforted her by lowering my price even more.she is a elderly woman so I felt bad.so I proceeded to do the demo and came across some other issues behind the wall that needed to be addressed.i examined the damage and informed Joyce that it would cost a little more.she said (and I quote)" no problem, let me just tell me daughter.then about an hr or so later, her daughter comes storming into the house ready to fight me. She then starts yelling at me like I'm her child.she had no respect for me whatsoever.so I calmly tried talking to her and explaining to her what needed to be done.after about 30 mins of her scolding me, she apologizes and says ok.so I proceed to finish.the next couple of days later I asked Joyce what color grout would she like? She said I don't know, maybe a white.i suggested a light grey because the tile had greyvin it.she replied back to me and said whatever as long as it looks good.so I got the grey.a day later she sees the grey and liked it very much, and so did her daughter and husband.that same day I had asked Joyce for some of the money she had owed me because I have a policy of receiving 50% of the job upfront because of expenses.butvi only want it at the end of the 1st work day.and then the other 50% at the completion of the job.i only received 35% upfront because she kept saying how she has a budget and doesn't have a lot of money and things like that.so I felt bad and lowered my price.so not only did i not receive the 50% upfront, but I lowered my price because I felt bad for her.so when in asked her for more money at 80% of completion from the job, she once again told her daughter and she came right over and once again and starting yelling at me. So at this point I had enough of her and her mom taking advantage of me.i raising my voice a bit and told her daughter not to speak to my like I was her child.i told her that I have shown nothing but respect for her and her mom, but now you and your mom are taking advantage of me.i went above and beyond for these people.like I always do for my customers.plus I took there garbage away which cost me money to dump and time to haul it which also wasn't a part of my estimate.then when it came to getting paid the remaining balance, that was an issue too.the daughter who was a teacher I believe proceeded to tell me that she does tile work and that my tile job wasn't great like her work.so I laughed.just wanted to get paid and leave.i was verbally abused too much in that house.but then Joyce said the job was nice and she liked it very much. So I got paid and left. About 2 months later I changed my number and added the new one on thumbtack.about 4 -5 months after the job I got a very disturbing phone call from Joyce saying that she has a major water leak and that it's from the job I did.so I called her back and told her I would come to her house and look at the damage with the plumber that did the work. She said no. She only wanted me to go there. I insisted that the plumber I hired would explain anything that I couldn't so she'd understand.after 15 mins or so from trying to convince her, she said ok.i made a scheduled appointment for a few days later and told her I'd call her when I was on my way.but on that day when I called her,,she told me not to come because she is having her son and two plumbers come and look at it.sounded a little shady to me.then she filed a complaint against me and was suing me for $5000!! Turns out after weeks of going back and forth, she then withdrew her complaint and said that there was no water coming from the one area I fixed.there never was any water.so she basically tried to take advantage of me by making up this story just so she can receive a new floor.and posted this bad review about me. All of my work is 100% guaranteed!!! Always.and has always been.so in the end, the lesson learned is not to mix business with personal lives.just there to do the job and move on.there are people in this world that will say and do anything to get things done for almost free and will always cry poverty, and give you some kind of bad story so you will feel bad for them.

Doug came out right away and gave me a quote. He worked on all the things I asked and some more he saw.
