Introduction: I hold a Ph.D. in second language acquisition from Carnegie Mellon University. I received my BA in teaching Chinese as a foreign language in Shanghai, China, and my MA in intercultural communication from the University of Pennsylvania.
I have 10 years of experience teaching Chinese as a foreign language in the university and K-12 settings in the United States. I have taught students of all ages and from different cultural backgrounds. My classes are communication-oriented. I design my classes based on students' needs.
I enjoy teaching Chinese and sharing my culture with different people. My students like to work with me and they make great improvement in their communication skills in Chinese!

We have been using Xiaofei for helping sustain and grow the conversational Chinese for our teenage son. We have found her to be very flexible and reliable in scheduling, engaging in her lessons and upbeat in her style. She has helped to create a customized lesson approach that really works for our son. Studying Mandarin Chinese with Xiaofei made the language much more approachable. Typically considered a difficult language for Native English speakers, Xiaofei uses her expertise in second language learning to build lesson plans that are challenging, yet doable. Exercises can be tailored to the learner's personal or career language learning goals. Her professionalism is evident: we had dozens of hours of classes with no cancellations or "wasted time". My Mandarin improved steadily while working with her. Highly recommended.
