- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I started doing hair for family & friends as a child and found it fascinating. Skills were improved learning on children, family & friends in junior high and high school. I’d become the “go-to” person for my peers for hair braiding and weaves. After becoming a single parent, raising a child with severe disabilities, I needed a vehicle to survive. I’d become recognized as being one of the best for hair extension services in the northshore area! In 2017, I graduated cosmetology school with newfound confidence and abilities I’d developed from practicing hair & makeup on a regular basis along with the challenging salon floor, doing hair & makeup for all ages, ethnicities, genders, and occasions. In 2018, I was an HMUA & Wardrobe Assistant for film The Black Emperor of Broadway (available on Amazon Prime streaming) and spent a month in the cape as a crew member who suddenly became part of the cast! It was a phenomenal experience that opened doors for new, unforgettable experiences and relationships that I will forever cherish. That same year into 2020, I worked on other film, tv, video, and professional projects as an HMUA all of which I am truly grateful for as exposure to so many settings in the beauty industry have made me a well rounded, experienced individual who is always ready for ANYTHING!
