Introduction: I have been teaching students in Korea and in the United States for more than 20 years. I also have experience volunteering in after-school programs, Sunday school teacher, summer and winter camp counseling. I have Preliminary Single Subject Teaching Credentials in Math and Science and Pre-Teacher Certificate from the United States. I also have a Master Degree in Science Education, a National Teaching License in Science and Chemistry, and a Life-Long Education Counselor License from Korea. I really enjoy teaching, sharing the knowledge with students and see them succeed. With my experience, I have the ability to develop a good rapport and trust with the student, and understand their weaknesses in Math, and help them overcome their struggle and become successful. Most importantly, I make students grow a passion for the subject, so that they can learn on their own afterwards.

Kim is a great Korean Tutor! I was really nervous getting lessons on learning Korean because it is something new to me and I know absolutely nothing. Within the first few minutes of meeting and starting the class with Kim, I wasn't nervous. She makes you feel super comfortable and she is super patient with you. All in all, I will definitely be continuing my lessons with her and I HIGHLY recommend you have Kim as a tutor! :)

FAQs

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

First of all, I listen to parents and students’ concerns. Also, I do an assessment for the student. It gives me an idea about the area of improvements needed, and I can help to fill the gap. To reach the next level in Math, it is important to understand the basic concepts. This process will improve the Math skills and the ability to study independently.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Have constantly developed professional teaching strategies following the Educational Standards to improve students learning. Have education in Supervised Tutoring, Children with AD/HD, and Learning Disabilities classes in order to learn behaviors and needs of students with AD/HD and learning Disabilities. Teaching Math and Science in diverse environmental organizations, elementary, middle and high school, college, summer school, after school, science summer camp, YMCA, and open school.

  • Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

I once had a student who got introduced by a former teacher. The student’s grade in Math was very low, and she lacked interest in the subject. Because of that, she did not follow the school assignments and never prepared for the class. I discussed with her parents and asked about their concerns, what is her struggle, and what kind of improvement they hope to see. I then told the student: “We have to work together. I will help you and you will do your best.” We decided to meet twice a week for two hours tutoring sessions. We started with the topic she studied in school, and when she needed to learn some basic Math concepts, I gave her extra homework. She needed to practice more to get a basic understanding and reduce some misconceptions in Math. What was great about her is that she focused well on the lesson. Also, even though I gave her a lot of work, she really did her best. It made me very happy to see how much effort she was making, and realized that she had a lot of potential. Within three months, she got her first A, and was ecstatic to tell me about her grade. We worked further together and I realized that she started to enjoy doing Math. Years later, I had a chance to talk with her again. She told me that she studied by herself without any help, and that she was still an A student. Math became her favorite subject and she knew how to study the way I taught her. She’s one of the reason I am now a dedicated Math teacher. Most people believe that students are not interested in Math, so they are not good. But based on my experience, it is the other way around. They are not good at Math, so they lack interest. Therefore, it is important to help students make progressive achievements and gain confidence, keep them interested, then improve their Math level to their full potential.
