Introduction: I am an experienced tutor who previously taught SAT test prep for two years at Revolution Prep, a tutoring agency based in Santa Monica, CA. My SAT score was a 2230 (750 Critical Reading, 680 Math, 800 Writing). I am also a native Mandarin speaker who has taken 6 semesters of college-level Mandarin, studied abroad in Beijing, and who is familiar with Mandarin education materials for both native speakers and first-time foreign language learners. Derek was able to coordinate an organized study regimen comparable to that of an SAT course that students would pay hundreds of dollars for, and the schedule was flexible. He taught in small groups as well as one-on-one sessions. When studying under Derek, I felt like I was in an actual classroom, which included quizzes and test periods. However, I looked forward to each session because even if I failed, I knew I would be learning something new. The environment was engaging but calm so I didn't feel stressed out. He was very articulate and explained concepts in a way that I could understand. I felt free to ask any question due to his never-ending patience, and he was always able to answer me. Derek provided copious amounts of supplemental resources to further enhance my SAT-skills. He was able to point out recurring themes and helpful tips in each SAT section, which I wouldn't have been able to do on my own. With his tutoring, I was accepted into every UC that I applied for. I owe much of my admission success to Derek's SAT prep course and am forever thankful. Highly recommended!

Going rate is $30 an hour for 1:1 tutoring and $40 for 1:2 (where it can be arranged). Prices may vary based on transportation costs too and from the teaching location.

A brief 30 minute phone call to assess whether my services would be good for his/her needs, followed by setting a consistent location and time for scheduled lessons.
