Vic offers a relaxed, non-threatening learning environment. He specializes in adult learning. When I started the piano, I couldn't read a note of music, and Vic started off by explaining proper posture and hand positons, the layout of the keyboard, the purposes of the treble and bass clefs, etc., and also advised me in the appropriate keyboard and equipment for my goals. He is very patient and encouraging and I feel I'm making very good progress in my first six weeks. Vic also alludes to music theory - he has explained that as the lessons progress, we will be discussing theory more in-depth. I'm very pleased with my lessons and even enjoy my practicing (though I'm not sure my neighbors do!!)

Vic is an awesome teacher. I would recommend him to anyone that wants to learn the guita or improve their skills. I learned more in 3 lessons with Vic than any other teacher that I have been to. He's very positive and makes it fun

I actually didn't make an agreement with Mr. Grady as he lived in Ventura and I wanted someone in Camarillo. However, I was so pleased with my phone contact, I have decided that if I become disenchanted with Judy Johnson (Camarillo based) that I will drive the extra miles to Ventura to work with Mr. Grady.

I played guitar for about 10 years but didn’t know what i was doing. I learned all about chords and scales from Vic and now I can use them in songs. It’s pretty awesome

FAQs

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I always ask each student, at the very beginning of our time together, what his or her goals are. Each individual has their own unique and personal reasons as to why they are studying music, their own concerns and expectations, and their own perceived strengths and limitations. My job is to help each person that I teach - 1) sort through these sometimes confusing issues, 2) identify for themselves the things that are most important, 3) formulate a success plan, and then, 4) help them realize their ambitions. Everything I do with each student during our sessions is directed toward that purpose.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have been performing professionally since I was 13. During my school years I played with many different bands throughout Southern California as well as writing my own songs and conducting and composing for high school choir. During the 70s, 80s, and 90s I recorded and toured with a wide variety of acts, taking time out on several occasions to study music theory in college as well as guitar, bass, piano, voice, and composition with a small handful of private coaches in the Los Angeles area. I have been teaching music for over 40 years and have been teaching full-time here in the Ventura area since 2002.

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

As a prospective student you are approaching the study of music with a certain set of desires, goals, and expectations. Some of those objectives will be long-term and some will be more-or-less short-term. A good instructor, or coach, can help you determine where each goal might fit within your personal timeline and assist you in formulating a success plan, helping you to feel confident and excited about your musical ambitions!
