There are teachers in our community. And, if you live with others, there are even teachers at home. But there is one teacher that we all have access to at any time, regardless of where we live and the resources we have. And that is, Mother Nature. Mother Nature can teach us simple, yet profound lessons about getting organized, specifically about letting go. If we want to get organized, we must let go of the unnecessary so we can better focus on the necessary. But de-cluttering can be challenging due to our own limiting beliefs, thoughts, and emotions. And it can be even more challenging when you involve the limiting beliefs, thoughts, and emotions of others within the same household. No doubt about that. The driving force behind these internal challenges is the focus on loss. But instead of focusing on the loss, we must shift gears and realize we’re making room for growth. It’s because of this loss that we’re able to gain. We gain time. We gain energy. We gain in our relationships. We gain in community. We gain resources. We gain love. We gain physical space. The list goes on and on. So how can Mother Nature teach us about letting go? Take the trees for example. Trees are so beautiful. Their leaves are always guiding us through their seasonal cycles. They grow, they thrive, they change color, and then they fall. The cycle repeats itself and continuously reminds us just how beautiful change and letting go can be. Or how about the snow? Snow accumulates like clutter. It just piles up higher and higher. Could the snow be reminding us just how hard it is to move forward in life when we accumulate so much? Just like the snow melts away making life easier again, we must find the strength to “melt away” our own clutter so we can get back on track again. The beach is one of my favorite places to be. I love an early morning walk barefoot on the sand, listening to the sound of the seagulls, and smelling the salty sea air. The tides remind me of the cycle of stuff. What the tide brings in eventually gets washed away. Likewise, the stuff that comes into our homes must eventually leave. For the items that have turned to clutter, the question then becomes, when does it leave and by whom? Mother nature is always teaching us lessons. Just look outside. Look up, look down, look all around. Use your senses. What can you observe? And how can it guide you in the direction of your most organized self? Keep moving forward on your journey to getting organized. And remember, life is happening for you, not to you!
