Introduction: My approach to "good health care" has been driven by my observation that the practice of medicine is a far greater responsibility than simply treating illness but rather additionally educating and supporting my patients so that they are able to maintain their health through an awareness of healthful practices. It is a philosophy that I balanced with a steadfast attention to modern scientific study. As such, not only can my patients expect my treatment protocols to reflect current standards and research, but also that in the process of examining and diagnosing illness, it is a common practice for me to perform allopathic exams and testing when it is appropriate -- just because the medicine is ancient doesn't mean that I am limited by an ancient understanding of science. I have the greatest enthusiasm for herbal medicines which are considerably better tolerated and present a significantly diminished risk of side effects than many pharmaceuticals, in most patients. They can also be researched in double-blind studies, which means that we can understand a formula in modern chemical terms as well as possess an even greater understanding of a formula's clinical applications. Most of all, I gain the greatest satisfaction in working with patients who want to be active participants in their health and well-being.Through this partnership, we are all made better, stronger, and happier.
