FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My students pay monthly tuition for once-per-week lessons. Though I do not bill hourly, that tuition breaks down to $44 per instruction hour in Coeur d'Alene and $50 per hour in Spokane. Most of my students take 45-minute lessons lessons, though I offer half hour and hour lessons as well.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Most new students commit to at least two months of weekly lessons, though learning any instrument is a lifelong process. I teach my voice students how their vocal folds work, breathing, functional differences between styles and genres, how to audition for musicals, and how to perform in a rock band or other ensemble. Piano students learn a curriculum supplemented by whatever songs or skills they would like to add. In Coeur d'Alene I teach at Northwest Academy of Music and at my home, and in Spokane I teach at Learn to Burn School of Music. There are different advantages to lessons at all three locations, which I would be happy to discuss with you!
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BA in Music, Vocal Performance from Whitworth University, and a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from Eastern Washington University. My Master's degree was augmented by much Vocal Pedagogy research and lots of observed teaching both privately and in classes. I also have Level 3 certification in Somatic Voicework(tm) the LoVetri Method from the CCM Institute at Shenandoah University. Though there is no specific certification or license to be a voice teacher in this country, I have gone out of my way to educate myself in the best teaching techniques for all genres of singing, and am always in pursuit of more training. I specialize in commercial singing, but have a great deal of experience with classical as well. I also teach classes for Christian Youth Theatre, and have experience as an elementary music educator.
