Paul did work on our toilet today. He was amazing. Even though the work was more extensive than originally thought (including an additional trip to the store), his charge was extremely reasonable. I believe he forfeited much of our fee. Paul was extremely pleasant. I will definitely call Paul again in the future.

Met with Rob and Tina on Wednesday to obtain an estimate for their cleaning services. They were very professional, prompt, courteous and thorough. Our first schedule cleaning is next week. We can hardly wait.

I am thankful for having found Fred's Handyman Service through Thumbtack. My several small plumbing problems, i.e., leaky faucets, maladjusted toilet flush valve and sink plug lever, etc., received Fred's prompt and thorough attention. He first came to assess the need for parts, which he then shopped for; during the second visit, he worked efficiently, even though it meant numerous trips into the crawl space to turn water off and on, and carefully explained his work to me. I was pleased by his professional attention to detail and his willingness to accommodate his schedule to my needs. His rates are quite reasonable, I feel; I certainly will call Fred's Handyman Service again should the need arise.

Original project was just some electrical work. Ended up hiring Jason to do the whole project - new vanity and cabinets for the bathroom plus drawer/cabinet pulls, sink and faucet, new fan, all new switches, paint (he threw that in for free), hand towel bar, and of course the original job of moving two switches and an outlet. Finished project far exceeded my vision for my bathroom - definitely hiring again for the rest of my renovation projects, large and small. Thanks for a fantastic job!

Did an excellent job. On time, did everything I needed him to do quickly, cleaned up after himself and charged a fair price. Couldn't ask for more.

I hired Troy to replace the caulking in the bathtub, replace the entry-door frame, buff out scratches from dogs around the entry way (inside and outside), repair the molding around the window in the entry way, replace a garage door opener, and fix the faucet and drain in the bathtub. He was very thorough to complete these projects with a guarantee that when the weather permits, he will finish the touch-up painting on the outside. Troy seems very knowledgeable and willing to meet budgeting needs for his customers.

Project included clearing of plugged drainage in the kitchen connected to garbage grinder and a dishwater. Thumbtack, Inc. contacted us within 15-20 minutes of submitting an application on this website. Roy Seal from BRS Serives arrived on time as was scheduled (4 hours after innitial request online). He finished the job within 38 minutes. His charge was exactly the same as listed in the original estimate = $50, no surprises. We will hire him again - Vinera, home owner. "I would say he was a 10 (on the scale from 1 to 10).  He did a great job, was friendly, knew right away what to do and did it quick, cleaned up afterwards.  I would certainly recommend him." - Steve, tenant

Richard is absolutely amazing! He is honest, dependable and gets the job done. We have hired Richard to put in a paver patio in our backyard, but after spending time talking with him it has turned out he is able to help out with some on-going projects in our home! He has fixed a leaky pipe in our laundry room plus has put in a pipe drain where our egress window was installed and managed to do it the way it was suppose to be done in the first place! Finally we found someone who gets the job done right. At this point we are very happy with that we got matched up with Richard and continue to look forward to him doing what needs to be done. We thank you! I would recommend Richard to anyone who is looking for an all around general contractor. He let us know right off what he can and will not do! He talks you through what he will be doing without even having to ask! He is what a contractor should be like! Again Thank you with many more "THANK YOU'S to come Yolonda Adams & Deirdre Adams

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What are plumbers and what do they do?

Plumbers are skilled professionals who are trained to install and maintain pipes and systems for drinking water, sewage and drainage. They usually have trained through four- to five-year training programs, which include apprenticeships, via trade schools and community colleges. Plumbers’ areas of expertise typically go beyond pipes to include mathematics, blueprint reading, plumbing codes and water distribution. They handle plumbing emergencies, such as broken pipes or clogged drains, and install and maintain everything from a new piping system to a replacement faucet. Plumbers also know how to install bathtubs and showers, toilets, water heaters and dishwashers. Plumbers may work on residential or commercial sites, sometimes designing and laying out a pipe system during construction.

How do you find a good plumber?

Whether you need a plumber to perform drain repair, install a new fixture, or replace rusty pipes, you need to make sure you hire someone reliable who will finish your job on time and within budget. Start by asking the plumbers on your short list these questions:

  • What is the total cost? Make sure your estimate includes materials and labor. Find out whether the plumber will be providing the materials and whether you’re being charged an hourly rate (which is variable) or a flat fee.
  • Is removal and cleanup included in the job? Some plumbers leave behind old parts, while others include the cleanup in the cost.
  • Is the work guaranteed? Find out whether the work (as well as the parts or fixtures) are guaranteed under a warranty.
