FAQs
- What types of customers have you worked with?
In-Home tutoring in Math or Science at least once a week for the entire semester.
- Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
We were retained by a parent to assist a High School senior in his last semester who was under notice that he could not graduate unless he passed the Math class. Our tutor determined that the student was doing well overall in the subject area and was able to perform well during the tutoring sessions, including all homework assignments, except he always seemed to fail in tests. Upon consultation with his teacher, we found that he was always in conflict with her and was focused more on his use of cell-phone, which was a distraction. He was apparently also late in turning in most of his assignments, which was a major portion of his final grade. We focused on building trust with the teacher and set specific goals that the student could achieve. We were successful in convincing the teacher to provide an intermediate test to make up for the late assignments. We also worked with the parent to ensure that the student's distractions were minimized during class, including restricted use of his cell phone during the school day and a genuine show of respect for the teacher. Our tutor focused more on improving test-taking skills, since the subject areas were adequately covered. We were extremely proud that our approach worked brilliantly in bringing together all concerned parties toward a common goal of getting the student to pass his class, which he did and was even admitted to college, since his SAT Scores also improved dramatically.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Look into the company's local presence and by all means avoid the "fly-by-night" operations. Hiring individual tutors carries high risks for your child, since the burden falls on you to check out their reliability and reputation.
