First of all, Greg was so accommodating to everything I asked for. My closing date changed at the last minute and he was able to switch the date without any issue. The guys that showed up were very nice and professional and worked quickly. Moving in 111 degree heat is never fun and I really appreciate all they did. They moved the furniture and boxes without any damages and placed items in their correct rooms at my new home. They laid runners so they didn't damage my floors and all around did a great job despite the heat. They moved a 4 bedroom home(loaded, drove and unloaded) in just under 7 hours! They worked hard and got the job done. Thank you for the hard work guys. I really do appreciate it.

Just did long distance moving (740mi) with Express Moves. 1. Above all, very low price for the long distance moving. 2. Responsibility - underestimated the load during the estimation and brought too small truck, but immediately rented a bigger truck without increasing price to keep the promise. Showed up on time, loaded in short time (many movers came for it in the night), delivered on time though it was not easy schedule. 3. Great movers, BR and Jaden. Diligent, polite, bright, fast response. These young men were the key who made this moving on time with the low price. 4. A little low quality as consequence of low price and plan change - no wrap on furniture made a chip on a table. Couldn't bring power tool and small thing when assemble furniture because shipping plan changed. I had to accepted early pick-up in the night and changed my air plane ticket to help the unloading and moving done on time for the one day shipping plan. But I willingly did it to guarantee benefit for them from this shipping. Thought I was tired, it was fair because I saved money for this shipping. And they will become better with these experiences. Overall - Good and trustable moving company, I recommend. Very low price for long distance moving with reasonable quality.

I moved locally over Labor Day Weekend. I hadn't hired movers in a very long time because of horrendous past experiences with some in the East Valley. Had I not searched through Thumbtack, I would have never found this gem of a moving company. Compared to other moving companies wanting to charge me upwards of $400+ just to move a small amount of things from a one bedroom apartment to another one bedroom apartment (that was literally 4 miles down the road), this one was extremely reasonable. Sylvester and Ricky came to help me and they were exceptional. They were extremely professional, polite, and respectful to me and my belongings. They made sure to ask me exactly how I wanted things and even offered to throw away some of my trash. It was hard for me to let them do these things, even if they were included in the price of the package, because I am so used to doing them myself and I can't just not help. They completely changed my views on local moving companies. I would recommend them to anyone!

Student Helping Hands provided great service and were very flexible in terms of scheduling. We had many heavy items to move, including moving a refrigerator up to the second floor, and did so without damaging our items or the walls. Jason is very communicative and makes you feel at ease during moves, which are always stressful. We will be contacting them again whenever we move in the future.

The men arrived on time and had everything they needed. They were polite and treated our furniture with great care. I would use them again. We were moving only about 30 miles away. So I only had them move the heavy furniture.

Just moving into the area and needed to have our pool table put back together. Reached out to a couple of options, got one quote from a company with a lot of credentials but the price they wanted was extremely high. Trickshot was so much more reasonable ( almost a quarter of the higher quote), the professionalism and quality where form Trickshot were outstanding. Third time we have had a company to this for us and Trickshot was the best.

When I first starting looking for a moving company, I went to the big names and was disappointed by their customer service & their prices. I then reached to Master Moving and they responded with in 20 minutes and walked me through everything to expect with their company. When it came time to actually move, the truck was there 15 minutes early, they got everything loaded and helped make the process of moving from one apartment to another super easy!! THEY WERE AMAZING!!! I will be using them next year when my lease is up and I am telling everyone I know to use them! WORTH THE PRICE!!!

I got lucky and Sean and his crew were able to squeeze me in at the last minute for a move. Friendly, responsive and excellent work!!! They wrapped and covered all my furniture and beds at no extra cost and didn't complain a lick about moving 40+ boxes weighing over 40lbs each from an upstairs house. Would definitely use again.

I had scheduled a job with another mover on Thumbtack but they did not come through. I sent another email requesting quotes and Mike send me an email stating that he could pick up my book shelves and deliver them to me. I was skeptical but I agreed, not only did he deliver on his word but he called the furniture store to get it set up for the next day. He calmed my fears and anger after I had been stood up by another moving company. My faith was restored in Thumbtack and I have recommended Mike to 2 others and I will use him again in the future. Thank you Mike. If you want honest trustworthy and a man of his word use Mike.

Oscar and his coworker drove the Pienske moving truck to my house for me, loaded everything as instructed, and worked HARD. They carefully wrapped all the furniture and were excellent at planning the placement of the contents onto the truck. You can trust that they will do a good job for you too!

OK - I admit, I didn't wind up using them - but I give them a five star rating all the same. I had placed a request for moving assistance in my own home because I was doing a flooring reno project and had to have all the furniture out of the bedrooms. Of all the moving companies contacted by Thumbtack, only two responded, one of which refused to help.I suppose this was too small of a job for them. Bellhops at least contacted me with a very reasonable offer for assistance. If I ever do move, I will use Bellhops.

Carnell showed up on time with his friend and moved all my boxes and stuff with no problem at all. I am very happy with his service. He also accommodated a last minute request from my room mate and helped her move as well. Definitely hire him. I felt it was good value for my money considering how hot the weather is in Phoenix now which makes moving on your own so hard. He also had a good attitude overall from the first time we communicated tilk end of the move.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
