Jeanne has been a lifesaver for me. I have a pit bull that came to me as a stray and was a handful to say the least as she has absolutely no boundaries and was not socialized with other animals. As such, I really needed someone to stay at my home while I was gone for a week on vacation. Jeanne was so wonderful with her and sent me pics and even took her to a vet appointment for me. She sent pictures and updates frequently, which I loved. Plus, I absolutely felt I could trust her with my animals and in my home. After Jeanne left from being at my house a week, my dog sat and stared at the door, waiting for her to come back because she loved Jeanne so much. I highly recommend her and she will be the only pet sitter I ever use!

My husband and I found out late that we needed a petsitter for the Christmas weekend. Leslie found me on Thumbtack, met with me the next day and started petsitting the day after that. I came home to happy animals and a clean house. I feel very lucky to have found a petsitter like Leslie on such short notice, and my dogs and cat were lucky to have such an animal person to take care of them. Thank you!

"Aunt" Claire had the lowest quote for me and her quote was reasonable in my opinion since my cats don't require a ton of work. They only eat dry cat food, aren't on any medications, use the same litter box and either drink out of the toilets or a glass on the bathroom counter. I needed someone to come in and make sure the toilets were flushed, their water glass was full, the dry cat food fresh and the litter scooped. Claire texted me daily updates and also kept the floor swept where the litter box is kept. She came by the house first to make sure we were on the same page about expectations and took great notes before she took the job. I will absolutely call on Claire in the future when I need pet-sitting - She's an animal lover and it's reassuring to have someone like her provide for the care of my cats.

Alicia provided us with the best pet sitting experience ever. She obviously showed our two fur-babies love and attention and taught our 4 month old pup basic commands. She sent us daily updates including pictures! When we got home our house was just as tidy and neat as when we left. She's the best!

Lynda is the BEST! My dogs love her! Even though they only see her when we go out of town for an extended time, they remember her and greet her with songs when she comes over. She spends good time with my guys, making sure they're happy, fed, played with and walked. She takes care of my house. I don't have to worry about anything when I hire her. One of the best things she does is to call me and let me know that they're all doing well. I love this! If you need someone really dependable, trustworthy and who loves your pets as much as you do, call Lynda. You won't be disappointed!

Rise and Shine is the absolutely best for pet sitting. They take such good care of my two dogs when I travel. They not only make sure the dogs have food and water, but they play and cuddle, take walks (even helping my bigger pooch with his walking manners!), and check on the house. I have great peace of mind when I'm away knowing my dogs are in such loving hands.

I hired Marcy to watch my two 75 pound plus dogs while I went on vacation. She stayed in my home with my dogs, collected my mail and watered my plants. She was absolutely fantastic. I received pictures of my boys while I was gone letting me know they were having a great time! She left my house very clean and I will definitely hire her again!

    About

Realized that a lot of people in Scottsdale are snowbirds or professionals that do not live here full time. Many of these people hire a management company to oversee their property while they are gone. However, as many of us know, this kind of service can be overkill and time consuming for the amount of time your gone. I offer the convenience of getting someone you can trust at a moments notice to watch after you house and property.

    About

My work stands out from others because you come home to a clean tidy house. If there is time clean animals too. I usually do a light cleaning if I am there less than a week and a regular cleaning if i am there a full week. I also clean up the patio and the dogs area. I like to come home to a clean house without anything to do except unpack and do my laundry. I figure most people are the same ways.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is house sitting?

A house sitter watches your house while you are away for work or vacation, or if you have to be away for an extended period. House sitters can also provide pet-sitting services, staying in your home and caring for your pet while you are away. The house sitter can say overnight in your home while you’re gone, or stop by once a day to ensure everything is in order if your pet doesn’t need overnight supervision. Reptiles and most cats are just fine with daily visits and feeding.

House sitting provides major advantages to the homeowner. A regular presence in your house deters break-ins and theft. Home safety issues such as water leaks get noticed and dealt with right away, so you don’t come home to big problems. A house sitter can bring in your mail daily, care for your houseplants, and provide home safety and peace of mind.

How do I find a reliable house sitter?

House sitting can help keep your home safe and well cared for so you can be worry-free while you’re away for work or play. There are several steps you can take to make sure you hire a trustworthy house sitter and do your part to be a responsible host. One of the best ways to ensure a safe home is to hire a professional house sitter. Here are some key points to look for when hiring a house sitter:

    • Reviews and referrals: When searching for a house sitter, always read reviews. Previous experiences will indicate how the house sitter will care for your home while you’re away.
    • Contract: Sign a clearly written contract outlining services to be provided (e.g., mail in each day by 5 p.m.), the daily rate you are paying, and how long the services will be provided. You can also include any agreed-upon house rules in the written contract.
    • Your part: Leave important phone numbers (vet, emergency contact, etc.) and information on where to find emergency items like the circuit breaker and the fire extinguisher, and have a credit card on file with the veterinarian in case of emergencies if the house sitter is watching your pets.
