Jim Oliveri's corrections, comments, suggestions and constructive criticism was exactly what I needed to feel confident that I have done my best before submitting my book to the publisher. A modest fee for all his expertise provides. I particularly liked the hard copy corrections, notes of explanation, and his offer of assistance if I hit a snag in the rewrite. He delivered as promised in two weeks. I am delighted to recommend Ye Editor to anyone interested in a true learning experience.

Just Ask Meghan is a terrific service. They are very responsive to our needs. They always follow through, very professional in every way. Cindy is fantastic, when I get home from a long day, and find my house shiny and sparkly, it is like a magic fairy came through and sprinkled sunshine all around. I'm happy to say this company is A+ in my book!

A really great company. JTPMO Global Agency did a great job! I got 3 social media videos and I love the animation video I got created in 3 foreign languages. I also did a Product Video and an Explainer video for my new book. They did English, Spanish and French for my market. They provide me with the voiceovers, the video script, background music and animation effects!! Everything was done for me and it same me both time and money...I am really happy with my videos and they are getting great feedback from my clients.I know they have a promotion on currently and I encourage you to take advantage and bundle all the services you need into 1 package. They follow an Agile Project Management format since they are a Project Management Company and they limit the number of projects in their production delivery per week . So it depends how soon you act determines if you make the cut-off for weekly delivery list. The process is simple you can also login online and review the status of your projects and they always provide you with updates. I love their format and it makes it simple for you to provide your sign off and approve your final work before video production. Yeah.. money well spent!

I found Toni through Thumbtack. I looked at her website and emailed her with the assignment generalities. I set up an appointment and gave her the ideas I had. Within a short time we met again at her office and fine tuned the book cover and business cards. She captured the ideas and feel that I was looking for exactly. I think the cover says it all, but anyone reading this can see for themselves. "Up Your Value!" is a book that guides sellers through the process of getting their home ready to sell and "upping" the value in the process. Website: www.upyourhomesvalue.com Available shortly in ebook through Amazon and Barnes & Noble. I should also mention when there was a glitch with the publisher, she got right in there and made everything go smoothly.

I have had Roberta copy edit two books for me (Adoption in Peru and Island Dachshund Tails) in the recent past and have found her services excellent. I am currently writing another book (Call of the Alaskan "Bush") and will have her copy edit it as well because I trust her work quality completely. She is extremely knowledgeable and professional. I met Ken Jensen in June, 2014 after interviewing several other potential editors for my novel, "Enemy in the Heartland." I selected Ken because of his professional attitude, his technical knowledge of military hardware, and the fact that he was an author himself made him an easy choice to be my editor. During the editing process, Ken's ability to keep the story's timeline correct and his suggestions on content has made my novel the success it is today. If you are thinking of using Ken's services, but questions, I would happy to talk to you on Ken's ability as an editor. Stephen Schwertley

I first met Eric through a mutual friend and I immediately recognized he was someone who could edit my first published book. Through his insights and understanding of my creative intentions he really helped me to focus and make a coherent narrative that my publisher loved. He really has a knack for getting to the central message which was really important given the combination of images and text. Since our first collaboration he has edited and made great suggestions for my resume and cover letters plus has tutored my kids with great results. He's someone who understands the "big picture". I'm lucky I ran into him.

Randy Cole is brilliant. He gave life to my words in a children's self-esteem story. His artistry is amazing. In the words of a movie producer friend of mine, after seeing the illustrations, "I thought it was illustrated by Disney Studios!" In addition, Randy is so wonderful to work with. He listens, he responds, he is very knowledgeable, he is helpful, he is detailed and he gave the ultimate best to my project. Randy went above and beyond what I expected. Look for the book, "There Ya Go Lil' Buddy," to be released January 2017 on Amazon.

Ashley gave my memoir the extra help it needed to sound like a fascinating, well written story. I had an idea about how I wanted my history in football to sound, but Ashley knew how to take my memories and recollections and turn them into an interesting BOOK that readers seem to love. She was so pleasant to work with, and always responded to my questions, issues and concerns within an hour or two. Bes of all, Ashley always wanted to make sure that the book was MY vision--just with her great "author" touches and attention to detail there to take it to the next level.

We are a publishing company that customizes your book. We also offer services for manuscripts for honest feedback before you spend the money on publishing. I also have over 20 years experience in resume writing and career counseling. I served as the director of a program that helped people with barriers to employment get back into the workforce. It is encouraging to see a book come to fruition and see someone else's work in print. And it is encouraging to watch someone get back into the workforce. It is amazing how an outsiders perspective can elevate a client to new levels.

About

My editing stands out because I edit not only for spelling and grammar, clarity, content and consistency but intuitively, meaning I look deeply into the document to determine what kind of potential pitfalls/problems it might have for any reason, or how certain phrases might come across. My ESL teaching background helps with this - examining things from all angles. As far as social media, I have written two books and have co-run a publishing company for many years, so I know what authors are seeking and what they need in terms of Facebook, Twitter, Goodreads, Google+, etc. I create basic websites that attractively get the information across, as well as blogs that match the cover of the book. I also create book covers. I enjoy publishing other authors' work. It's a process, helping them get their creative work out into the world...a labor of love. Writing, editing and social media are all my passions. Social media is a big one because it allows authors and small business owners the freedom to do their writing/their business without having to worry about posting all the time. I love the creativity involved in creating book covers and blogs.

I don't have a single or even a few styles of design. For instance, when people look at multiple book covers I have designed, they would never know they were designed by same person because I have not found a genre or focus I couldn't fit into somehow. Also, I have the unique experience in having worked in a print shop for over 14 years, so I can literally design anything. When I was in the shop we never knew what work would walk in the door, so luckily I can work with any style or project. The finished product. That perfect combination of photograph, fonts, illustration to make that finished product unique and work for the customer.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you hire a good grant writer?

Grants are available to nonprofit organizations, for-profit businesses that qualify for government grants, and individuals who qualify for foundation or government grants. Hiring a good grant writer can help you gain funding in your chosen field. According to the American Grant Writers’ Association, grant writers can help you research potential grant opportunities; write grant proposals, create budgets, and build budget narratives; review written materials before you submit; prepare a business plan; analyze your organization for grant competitive qualities; prepare research grants; help with 501(c)(3) applications for nonprofits; and more. Investing in the right grant writer could result in a financial win for your organization. Generally no licenses or certificates are required to be a good grant writer, but you may want to find a grant writer who has been certified (not just received a certificate of completion) by a reputable organization such as the Grant Professionals Certification Institute. Qualities to look for in a good grant writer include:

  • Proven success writing winning grants, especially in your target area.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Strong math skills and demonstrated proficiency with budgeting.
  • Careful attention to detail — brilliant grant proposals may be rejected just for formatting errors, so you want someone who follows instructions explicitly.
  • Expertise in your target area.
  • Punctuality and good communication skills.

How much does a grant writer cost?

Hiring a grant writer can give you a competitive edge when applying for financial grants for your business or nonprofit organization, or as an individual. The cost to hire a grant writer can vary depending on their academic background, areas of expertise, previous grant writing success and years of experience. According to the Grant Professionals Association, grant writers should be paid hourly or by flat fee. It is unethical for a grant writer to accept a commission or percentage compensation of grant monies received. They can, however, be awarded bonuses in line with the hiring company’s prevailing practices. Here are some examples of average grant writing fees:

  • Hourly rate for grant writers with less experience or fewer grants awarded: $25-$35 per hour.
  • Hourly rate for grant writers with some degree of success: $35-$75 per hour.
  • Hourly rate for grant writers with proven success winning large grants: $75-$150 or more per hour.
  • For a smaller grant, the writer may charge a flat fee of $200-$500 for preparation and submission.

Pricing may also vary based on the complexity of the grant application. A federal grant that requires pages of research, budgets and a business plan may take more than 30 hours to prepare. For a high-level grant writer who charges $100 per hour, this means $3,000 or more in grant writing fees.

Most grant writers will provide you with a total cost estimate before agreeing to the work. You may be required to pay a deposit up front, or the grant writer may work from a retainer. Often, seasoned grant writers pay for themselves in the long run by writing successful grants.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
