Andrew W. says, "I started training at Bluestarr in July 2020. At that time I was close to 250 lbs and unable to lose the weight using traditional methods, e.g. running, weight training, etc. As a Marine veteran I pride myself on my fitness but nothing seemed to work anymore. From day 1, Sadiq and Dana made me feel like family and welcomed me. Starting as an adult in a grappling gym can seem intimidating. The other adults have been doing this for a while, and usually the kids are tough as nails. While this certainly applies at Bluestarr it was obvious that there was a culture here that embraced an inclusive environment and everyone lives by that. Sadiq keeps it fresh by incorporating numerous grappling arts in the training sessions including BJJ, judo, wrestling, and sambo. During the kids classes he has a way of incorporating relevant games that keep the kids engaged and learning. I'm just under 2 years in and I'm down to 211 lbs, a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and I'm loving it more and more everyday."

Sharon Doyle says, "Coach Hunter transformed an "amotivated sloth dopamine junkie" into a high-functioning human. Before working with Coach Hunter, my primary hobbies were Netflix and Mistplay. I went in with zero momentum, but Coach Hunters "go slow to go fast" philosophy was the perfect antidote to my burnout. He provided a gentle reintroduction to fitness, focusing on low-intensity strength building and slow, incremental changes.Coach Hunter celebrates every single milestone, no matter how minor. At times, the steps felt so small I didnt think they were making a differenceI even doubted him when he said I was getting strongeruntil I saw my family at Thanksgiving. The shock on their faces, "Wow, you lost so much weight!" was the undeniable result of his consistent, patient approach.Coach Hunter is a true professional with a calming, quiet-spoken, and supportive presence.-Customized Nutrition: He provides structured meal plans and supplement advice without ever pushing product sales. He prioritizes your taste and budget over his bottom line.-Total Organization: We used a shared log to track every workout, meal, and goal, making the process seamless. He is also quick with communication.-Expert Knowledge: As an endurance runner who burns through 4,000 calories a day, he is a literal "efficient machine," yet he remains incredibly patient and respectful of those of us just starting out. Thanks to Coach Hunter, Ive seen a notable increase in my flexibility, agility, and energy. This physical transformation allowed me to tackle a physically demanding acting role that stands as my proudest achievement in decades of performing.I originally intended to train for three weeks; I stayed for six months and only stopped because he moved away from Honolulu. If you have the chance to work with Coach Hunter, take ithe won't just help you reach your immediate goals; he'll steer you squarely toward permanent, long-term change."

Shannon F. says, "I’ve been working with Abby at The Balanced Broad for nearly a year now. In my opinion, her expertise and empathy combine to make a perfect combination for helping women of all ages and backgrounds find balance and achieve their goals. I have presented her with many challenges in our partnership and she continues to support, research, and problem-solve with me. I couldn’t ask for a better trainer while I build the physique, fitness level, health, and most importantly - balance that I’ve been striving for in my life! If you’re considering working with a trainer, I want to tell you that I am a 44 year old, obese woman with chronic illnesses. When I started working with Abby I was still recovering from cancer treatment and a major surgery. I am now stronger than ever before, and I feel great! Don’t wait until you feel “ready”, you’re ready… and Abby is accommodating and knowledgeable enough to help you wherever you’re at in your journey."

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

The cost of fitness boot camps depends on how often you go, the package you are purchasing (or if you are paying a drop-in fee), the location of the bootcamp, the equipment the instructors provide, and the background and reputation of the instructor. Smaller towns and areas with a lower cost of living typically have lower rates for boot camp services than big cities and regions with a higher cost of living. If you’re paying per class on a drop-in basis, expect to pay anywhere from $12 to $25 or more, depending on the region and the instructor. When you purchase a package of classes, typically the more you buy at one time, the cheaper each class is. The same boot camp class might be $20 for a drop-in student, $15 for a student who pays for 10 classes per month, and $10 for a student who pays for 30 classes a month. Studio space can also affect costs, so if your boot camp takes place in a high-end gym with top-of-the-line equipment, the prices will likely be higher than a class that meets in an outdoor space with limited or no equipment. Shop around to find the right type of boot camp class and the right instructor for you.

Fitness boot camps are a heart-pounding way to boost your fitness level. Boot camps are led by a fitness instructor and are based on the concept of military boot camps — intensive workout programs to get new recruits into shape, quickly. Fitness boot camps encourage camaraderie, and the group momentum helps participants get through fast-paced intervals of cardio, isometric training, strength training and endurance drills. Classes may range anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, and usually meet multiple days per week. Boot camps often run a specific duration of time, say four to six weeks, which creates a team-like environment for class members. Other boot camps run year-round and students purchase package pricing for classes, similar to subscriptions that allow them a set amount of classes per week or per month.

Boot camps can be held indoors at a gym, outdoors in a park or on a beach, in a backyard — anywhere there’s room for running, jumping and sweating. Some instructors also provide DVD and online boot camps. You can also find boot camps tailored to your heart’s desire, such as bikini boot camp, or boot camps for new mothers. Boot camps offer an intense workout and are usually led by energetic instructors pushing you to do your best, but unlike military boot camp drill sergeants, fitness boot camp instructors typically don’t use intimidation or punishment to spur you on. Check with your doctor before starting a boot camp if you have health concerns, and always let your instructor know ahead of time if you have injuries.
