Introduction: The majority of my students are under the age of 8 and come to me as complete beginners. Also, I teach the parent all of the basics on the instrument alongside the child (under the age of 12). Working with both the student and the parent creates a dynamic in the lesson that is unique to Suzuki lessons. The parent takes a greater responsibility for the education of their child, and the child in turn takes a greater interest in the lesson because the parent is actively invested. The parent is also able to encourage practice more at home, because they have a greater understanding of what a good practice looks like from sitting in at the lessons.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

Tuition can be paid in monthly, quarterly, bi-yearly or annual increments--depending on when you join the studio. Fees for private lessons, group classes, recital and supplies are lumped into one payment that is then divided by ten months in the academic year. The studio operates under a calendar set at the beginning of the academic year, and tuition takes into account winter and spring breaks, and holidays. Tuition rates can be seen in detail on my website.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I attend string pedagogy training workshops every year, and actively observe master teachers at work with their private students. I'm always researching new or unique approaches to teaching music to students of all ages.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Explore the Suzuki Association of Americas website and read blogs from Suzuki parents. Be prepared to spend 10-30 minute per day practicing with your child (under the age of 12). Expect to attend and take notes at every lesson and group class.
