Introduction: I offer Mandarin tutoring and lessons at all levels. I help students excel in their formal Chinese language classes, going beyond most curricula to help them achieve a deeper familiarity and mastery of the Chinese language and culture. Because of my background in linguistics and fluency in spoken and written Chinese, I can teach complex grammatical concepts, standard pronunciation, and cultural contexts in a way especially suited to and understandable for native English speakers. I work with highly motivated learners to create study plans and customized curricula that will best meet their individual needs and then through instruction and practice help them to reach their goals of speaking, reading, and writing fluency. I have been using Chinese professionally for almost a decade in various capacities, including working as a professional translator and consular officer at a U.S. consulate in China. My language level has been highly rated by the American Council on The Teaching of Foreign Languages (oral proficiency interview rating of superior), the Foreign Service Institute (professional working proficiency), and Hanban (highest level on the HSK, the standard test for evaluating Chinese as a second language in China, like the TOEFL in the U.S.).
