Jeff provided music for our wedding. We asked him to learn and do music for the ceremony and then do music for the reception and dancing. He did exactly what we asked plus offered his ideas and suggestions for our consideration. He is exceptionally talented and quite professional. We got lots of comments from our guests that they enjoyed his music I highly recommend Jeff for your wedding or party.

Eddie is an amazing teacher- I picked up my first drumstick at the age of 50- and in a little over a year, I was playing in a band. He adapts his teaching style to how I learn, which is reading music from the charts and he transcribes songs for me- then explains every detail of a beat or a chart - He also has many cool exercises to increase my abilities in all areas- His experience, knowledge and most of all enthusiasm are some of his best traits- I still have a long way to go, but I fully believe I came along quicker in my ability to play because of finding Eddie as my instructor.

What can we say ... Brekyn was beyond the perfect touch for our wedding! We had a very small and intimate ceremony and dinner reception of 20 people which she was magnificent at! We then moved and joined the post part / cocktail reception of 80 people and she set the stage with her music that we were looking for! She learned new songs for our wedding and her performance and style brought tears to everyone’s eyes. We are now on our honeymoon discussing ever detail of our wedding and how every aspect was perfect including Brekyn. We want to say... thank you!!!

I originally found Mark via Thumbtack, he responded to my inquiry promptly. I spoke with him on the phone and could tell by his demeanor he would be the perfect officiant for my wedding. He emailed over a sample service, which I altered a little to fit my and my fiance's personality. He attended my rehearsal which allowed me to speak with him in person and get to know him a little better. He arrived early for the day of the wedding ceremony and was professional throughout the whole event. My guests and I were all very impressed by his service. Hiring him took some of the many wedding day stresses off my shoulders. I would definitely recommend Mark for anyone's wedding, plus he was very well priced for this service. Thanks Mark, you made for a very memorable day! -Bicey and Vineet

Yorman Williams and his band Yormelodies is a group of professional musicians who really knows how to get the party started. Instantly capturing the audience's attention with their wide range of music from the 60s, 70, 80s, and 90s, no one was able to remain in their seats as they performed. At one point, Yorman himself gave a superb rendition of Louis Armstrong's :"What a wonderful world", and if we were'nt all looking directly at him, we would never believe it was not Louis himself. I highly recommend this great performer for weddings, parties, reunions, and celebrations!

Andrew Gork of Gork Live performed at my brunch wedding in March 2015. The wedding was outdoors at The Farm South Mountain on a Sunday morning, and he was absolutely perfect. Not only does he have an incredible voice and musical talent in spades, but he really customized the experience for us. My husband and I sent him lists of our favorite songs, and he learned so, so many of them, so that all morning, not only did we hear beautiful music, but it was personal and meaningful to us, from Bob Dylan to Jeff Buckley and even a little TLC. He covered songs from a range of styles and decades, each with his own personal flair, and we got so many compliments on his performance. He also mixed in several of his original songs, which are incredibly beautiful. It had an awesome and cool indie vibe to it, and whether he is the primary entertainment for a daytime event, or dinner and cocktail music at an evening event, Andrew's professionalism and talent will ensure that your event is beautiful and meaningful and fun.

Outside The Line was the most amazing band ever! My husband and I researched and listened to many bands before we officially booked Outside the Line. They were the best of the best! They have soul, spirit, swag, and an incredible sound. They kept the energy the room going all night! They worked with us and what we wanted, and they truly exceeded our expectations. Our wedding guests said the band was the best part of the wedding! I can not say enough good things about these guys! We definitely recommend them to everyone and anyone!

I hired John and Andrew to play acoustic guitar at my wedding ceremony. The ceremony was at an outdoor garden and the acoustic guitars fit perfectly with the atmosphere. They supplied their own equipment and the volume was perfect. They are both extremely talented musicians and are able to learn whatever song selections you request. They sent me a short video clip of one of my song requests which was very helpful so I could confirm it was the sound I was looking for. They also attended our rehearsal which was very helpful and appreciated. Very nice and professional.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

  • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
  • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
  • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.
