Rob responded quickly and the crew showed up on time. They did a pretty good job with the cupboards and cabinets and the house in general. However the tiles and wood floor are not cleaned well. I was wiping some dripped water this morning, and the paper towel came out yellow and brownish. However, the crew worked hard in the house without air conditioning. That was impressive. That's why I am willing to give a rating of 4 stars.

Ociel's wife Judy and a helper Jasmine arrived on time (early in fact), went right to work and didn't stop until the job was done...5 hrs. They were very detailed and went room to room doing what I asked them to do. They had me check their work as they went along. They washed windows outside and inside. Wiped down all cabinet fronts in the kitchen removing grease and buildup, cleaned microwave, dusted and removed items from shelves to dust. Took up all rugs and mopped floors. Judy and Jasmine were friendly, and wanted me to be happy with their work ...which I was. I made an appointment for them to come back again in a months time. I definitely will be using them on a permanent bases. Nice to know that Ociel also does yard work and hauling which I may ask for him to do at sometime. Judy said they also do laundry and also asked if I wanted my refrigerator cleaned out (which I didn't) but nice to know they do it all! Thank you for a job well done. Molly

Nick and team are master craftsman and top, top talent. We did a major, nearly whole house, remodel and Nick's work was stunning. Can't say enough about how happy we are with the results of our new kitchen, new hardwood floors, etc. Still working on a few items and will have Nick and crew back later in the year to re-do our bathrooms to complete the house. We highly recommend Nick for any of your projects.

Tim was friendly and professional from the start. I was looking for someone to redo the flooring in my entire townhouse and I needed it done quickly so that I would be able to move in on time. Not only did Tim provide me with the most reasonable price, but there were no surprise costs beyond the original estimate. He and his wife were both kind enough to meet me to help me pick out tile and took care of picking up and delivering as well. He went above and beyond by installing baseboards, taking down an extra cabinet, and even helped me out with a doggie door I was trying to figure out how to install. I am so happy with the beautiful floors but even more so impressed with Tim's level of service and professionalism. Having never done any renovations before-I am so grateful to have ended up with Tim, because I had a great experience. Thank you SO MUCH!!

Michael, was very helpful with three homes he has worked on for me. He remodeled bathroom with tile shower & floor. New vanity with vessel sink. I took his suggestion to insulate brick home (only 1 room was missing insulation); now my room is comfortable with temperature. He smoothed out my sheet rock walls and painted the whole house. He was able to get a carpeting company to come and install carpet in one day notice. My front porch; completed wood treatment and staining; for outdoor durability. My other home in Gilbert; he improved the value of the home; was able to sell the home for more than we had expected. (The first weekend, home was on market; we had five offers) He placed new kitchen counter, sink, faucet and painted all the cabinets with a two tone color. He updated the three baths with tile floors and new hardware throughout. He replaced three big windows in the home. Stair case painting was nice. The stucco painting was very nice. My mother's home; he replaced the back yard wood fence with wood treatment color. Refinished the whole roof, after a leak into one of the bedroom ceiling. That bedroom with water damage; he placed floor tile; painted walls and new fascia. The driveway is awesome with brick paver's throughout. Thank you for all the work you have done for us.

Jeremy has been creative and adaptive to my needs. He was able to quickly utilize my data files to laser etch a custom logo into pieces of custom designed hardwood that I provided. I have turned to AZ Wood Concepts more than once and the results have always been the same. Professional, courteous, timely and fair prices.

Ron and his crew repaired some floor damage in 2 baths. They were professional in every way but easy to talk with. We will definitely use them for any future work we require. We received a fair price for the work that was done.

DD Kruse remodeled my front bathroom about a year ago, and they did a fantastic job. All new tile was put in around the tub. They also put in new fixtures, a vanity, and lighting. The new vanity was smaller than the ugly old one, so the floor tile also had to be patched with leftovers from when the bathroom was originally tiled years ago so there was not a blank space. I was very impressed both with the quality of the work and the professionalism that Dean exhibited.

More than thrilled working with Albert and his uncle. They were not only able to take care of replacing laminate flooring but also perform a top notch job on the drywall repairs needed. As both were extensive damage from water leakage, the job was not easy. Would hire again. An excellent team.

Had 1300sq.ft. of flooring , 800 floating cork, 500 engineered hickory. The pair of installers were hard working but it seemed like only one really had his act together, the other must have been a trainee. Overall happy with the install but numerous dings from the hard mallet use can be seen on the cork, some of the cuts could have been more accurate and the choices of planks that they laid could have been planned better in laying the hickory. I was told that the job would be perfect, it was not. However the floor overall looks great, hope all is well by the summer, i.e. expansion due to dry heat.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

  • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
    • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
  • 620 square feet of maple floor:
    • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
    • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
      • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

  • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
  • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
    • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
  • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
  • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
    • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
  • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
    • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
    • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
    • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
      • Includes removal of the dura rock.
  • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
