Dr. Jo has been doing metaphysical life coaching for my husband and myself. We are making great progress. Yes, Dr. Jo has gone above and beyond when she came to the hospital when I was in the ER. She had helped me get to the bottom of my fears. I would highly recommend Dr. Jo Ruddy.

Nancy Cohen is an amazing life coach. My husband and I went to Nancy to see if she could move us through some marital difficulties. She first explained what the difference is between therapy and life coaching and I instantly felt comfortable with her because of her honesty; she was not trying to "get our business", she was genuinely trying to serve our needs. She has a wealth knowledge and experience. I felt that I was being listened to and Nancy was very measured and balanced in bringing us through issues. I can say that I am much happier today than I have been in years as a result of my interactions with Nancy Cohen. If you want perspective, reality check, awareness, and hope them I suggest seeing Nancy Cohen.

If you are ready to make changes in your life, Sage Path Therapy is a great place to start. Recently, while training for a bike race, I was thrown head-first off my bicycle and broke my right elbow (olecranon process). The broken piece of the bone in my right arm was being further separated the tricep tendon. There was no choice, I had to have it surgically repaired. For me, this injury was a very difficult because I was sidelined from training. Gym workouts were even curtailed because of the arm. Patti told me that if I was willing to try hypnotherapy and put in some of the effort that I was previously spending on workouts, she could help me accelerate the healing process. I am a skeptic. But, at the same time, I had nothing to lose. If it worked, I could be back on the bike sooner and if it didn’t I just wasted a little time each day. My surgery was on December 2, 2016 and from there I started my rehab which included Patti’s guided hypnotherapy process. My reason for the five stars is that Patti delivered on her promise to help me accelerate the healing process. At 60 years old, I’m not a kid. Injuries like this don’t heal as well as they did when I was younger. However, with Patti’s help, I fully expect to be good as new in a few months. I have a seven-inch surgical scar on my right elbow with nine screws holding the bone together with a plate. Following the surgery, I was prescribed a four-week supply of pain meds with one refill. I only needed to take four pain pills. Today is Tuesday, January 3, 2017 and I just got back to my computer from the surgeon’s office. Wonderful news! At four weeks and a few days, I can start training again. I have been cleared to put weight on the arm and start riding my bike again. The latest x-ray of my elbow shows only a slight shadow of the fracture where the bone was previously completely separated. My surgeon told me that he typically doesn’t see this level of progress and healing until the eight-week follow up visit. And the healing wasn’t limited to the bone growth. The range of motion in my right arm after four weeks is already 85% and the surgeon doesn’t believe I will need any physical therapy to restore normal movement in my arm. My collision and injury was traumatic. I’m extremely grateful to Patti that the restoration process has been less traumatic that it could have been. Drugs have side-affects. Except for the post-surgical antibiotics and four pain pills, I have not endured the negative effects from extended drug reliance during rehab; and, I won’t need to spend hours each week going to physical therapy. As a self-professed skeptic, I cannot argue with Patti’s results; she delivered on her promise. Patti really did help me to accelerate the healing process. The pleasant surprise is that avoiding physical therapy will also save me time AND money considering the co-pays not covered by my health insurance.

With Mary as my life coach I was able to fulfill dreams that might never have become reality . A stagnant artist completed a painting and showed at a gallery. She is sensitive and yet pushy in a good and needed way. You begin to see the thinking that always holds us back. My experience with Coach Mary was life altering and I recommend her talents to any one who wants more out of their life,no matter what age. Debbie W.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a health coach?

A health coach is a service provider you can hire to help you realize your wellness goals. You can hire a health and wellness coach to guide you through life changes, keep you focused on weight loss or fitness goals, help boost your mental health, and more. Many health coaches work with their clients for set periods of time as the client moves toward a measurable goal. Wellness coaches come from varying backgrounds, and may have different areas of focus depending on their education and training. Research potential coaches by reading their reviews, researching their academic and personal backgrounds, and learning about any certifications they have earned from coaching institutes. Often, health and wellness coaches sell coaching packages ranging from three to six months or longer, depending on the client’s needs. The average national cost for an individual health coach session ranges from $60 to $90, although prices may range as low as $30 or up to $130 or more, depending on your location and the coach.

Are nutritionists covered by health insurance?

Nutrition counseling can be a critical component of good health care, especially for people recently diagnosed with diabetes or high cholesterol who need to adhere to a specific diet. People also meet with nutritionists for help developing a healthy vegetarian or vegan diet, developing an eating plan to lose weight or gain muscle, or improving their sports performance by changing their diet. Nutritionists may be covered by health insurance depending on your reason for meeting with them. Nutrition counseling is more likely to be covered if it is part of a doctor-prescribed treatment for a particular medical condition, such as diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure or coronary heart disease. For example, Medicare covers medical nutrition therapy services only for people diagnosed with diabetes or kidney disease, as long as they get a referral from their doctor. Also, insurance providers more often cover nutrition visits if the patient has been referred to a registered dietitian within the carrier’s network of providers. Insurance plans vary greatly, so research your benefits before visiting a nutritionist.

How much does a nutritionist cost?

A nutritionist provides expertise and guidance to help clients with all diet-related health matters, including losing weight, gaining muscle, improving their sports performance, and managing diabetes or high cholesterol. Nutritionists can help people learn to follow special diets in a healthy way, such as becoming vegetarian or vegan or developing a low-sodium or gluten-free eating plan. The average national cost of a nutritionist is $60 to $100. Nutritionists often require an initial consultation with a new client, during which they’ll take a medical history, assess the client’s nutritional needs, and determine the best course of action; this first meeting usually averages $100-$120 for a 45-minute to 90-minute consultation. Subsequent nutritional counseling sessions generally cost less, ranging from an average of $45 for a half-hour session to $60-$90 for a one-hour session. Like many professional service providers, nutritionists may offer discounts through package pricing. For instance, a one-month package with two sessions and email support costs an average of $190; a three-month package with three sessions and email support costs an average of $360; and a six-month package with six sessions and email support costs an average of $540.

What is a holistic wellness coach?

When you want to reach new heights with your health and wellness, consider hiring a holistic wellness coach. Much like a health coach, a holistic wellness coach is focused on your well-being and meets with you in one-on-one sessions to help you identify and reach your targeted goals. A holistic wellness coach will typically have you take all components of your life into account when working to achieve your goals. If your goal is to lose weight, a holistic wellness coach will not only offer recommendations for your diet and exercise, but also discuss your emotional health, your work/life balance, your spiritual side, and each area of your life that affects your ability to follow a nutrition and fitness plan.

Although they are highly motivational and often can help clients achieve great results, holistic wellness coaches are not professional health care providers or registered dietitians. Different institutes and training centers provide certifications for holistic wellness coaching, so be sure to research your coach and read their reviews to understand more about their techniques and training.
