I called SB Renovations from a referral of a good friend of mine. I had several contractors in my house before I met Casey. Everyone gave me outrageous estimates with extra add on charges. Casey was my last resort and I am so glad to have found her. When I first called Casey, she answered the phone right away. We scheduled an appointment for a free consultation. She showed up on time for the appointment. When Casey arrived she was very presentable, she was wearing a mask, and stood 6 feet away from me. I needed drywall replaced on my ceiling and a wall along with mold remediation. She spent a lot of time with me going over what exactly we needed to do to get the job done. Casey was upfront from the beginning that she was not licenced, I appreciated her letting me know right away. Transparency is very important to me. She is good at communicating and I always knew what to expect. Casey provided me an estimate the very next day. The estimate was reasonable and lower than the other companies that were trying to gouge me for every penny. Casey and her worker showed up to my home at the time they said they would be there to do the work. She introduced the worker to me and he was wearing a mask, he was presentable and courteous. Her worker Robert was someone Casey has known for 10 years, this made me feel very comfortable that someone trusted was in my home. I felt secure leaving them both at my home alone while I had to run errands. The both of them kept the work space clean as they worked, and when they left. I didn't have to climb over their tools when I needed to come into my home. I can tell Casey puts safety first. The work they did was done in a timely manner, efficient, and good quality. I highly recommend this woman for your construction needs. Being a female myself, I had several male contractors in my home before her. I have to say I wasn't impressed, and half the time didn't feel safe. It was a relief to have a female owned small business owner come to my rescue. Thank you Casey for your professionalism and hard work. It's nice to have a mold free home, and nice fresh walls! :)See more

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What’s the best way to set up a consultation or an appointment with a painter during the COVID-19 pandemic?

To stay safe during the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s important to use virtual tools for communication. If you’re hiring local interior and exterior painters, contact them to see if they’ll set up a video call to assess your project. During this call, they can get a feel for what needs to be done and may be able to give you a price quote.

Discuss potential plans and strategies for getting the work done safely. And ask whether they accept virtual or digital payments.

How can I find out if a painter is considered an essential COVID-19 service provider?

To figure out whether a painter is considered an essential service provider during the COVID-19 pandemic, visit your local jurisdiction or state’s government website for information.

The CISA website also provides a helpful resource: Identifying Critical Infrastructure During COVID-19. This page is intended for a national audience and includes 16 different categories of critical infrastructure sectors. Some jurisdictions follow CISA’s definitions of critical infrastructure, but not all of them do.

Can I use digital payments to pay for painting services?

Many painters accept digital payments through Venmo, Square Cash, Google Pay, PayPal, Zelle and others. Due to COVID-19, others may quickly adopt this technology to maintain social distancing practices and follow health recommendations.

Contact professionals beforehand to ensure they’re able to accept digital payments and continue to follow safety guidelines throughout your interactions. Compare local interior and exterior painters’ profiles to see which types of payments they accept.

Does a painter need to enter my home?

If you’re hiring an exterior painter, the painter will likely not need to enter your home. But for interior paint jobs, the painter will need to enter your home.

When talking to potential painters, discuss a strategy to make sure you and the painter(s) stay safe while they’re completing the job in your home. Or, you might want to discuss scheduling the paint job at a later date.

How often should you paint your walls?

You should repaint your home interior once every few years, depending on the condition of the current paint.

Paint on walls fades over time, regardless of the room — it could happen in a bedroom, kitchen, dining room, living room or bathroom. However, paint that is exposed to more dirt, particularly flat or matte paint textures, may need repainting more frequently.

Areas of the bathroom or kitchen that routinely get touched may show signs of collecting dirt and grease over time. These would require more frequent painting.

If you're ready to repaint the walls in your home, get free estimates from the best painters near you.

How much value does painting add to a house?

Due to a lack of data available, it’s hard to say whether painting your home’s interior or exterior will increase its value. But there are some important things to keep in mind.

If you're thinking about selling your home, you might want to repaint areas that look especially worn, dull or chipped so your house looks fresh and new to potential buyers. On the other hand, it’s possible some potential buyers will repaint the home upon moving in. So if you have a limited budget, your money (and time) might be better invested in other types of home projects, such as remodeling your bathroom or kitchen, installing new floors or fixing broken appliances

When in doubt, check with your realtor before making a final decision.

How long does it take to paint a room?

The length of time it takes to paint a room varies, depending on a couple of factors. For example, the size of the job makes a difference. With a small bedroom, or with only a wall or two that have to be painted, the job can be done in half a day. Larger jobs take longer.

Also, if there are several different colors being used, the job may take longer, as one may have to dry before the other is applied. A 12-by-12 room with one color may take a morning. With multiple colors, the job may stretch into the afternoon.

Before you hire an interior painter near you, ask them how long it will take to paint the room(s) in your home.

Do you tip painters?

Yes, it’s best practice to tip house painters if you’re pleased with their work. Painters perform detailed, skilled work that can last for many years, if not decades.

Tipping house painters is good etiquette. You can base the tip on the size of the crew, and request the amount to be evenly divided. Or, you can leave a tip based on the size of the job and leave it up to the foreman to decide how it is distributed among the crew. Sometimes — especially with big projects — the painters on the job change during the course of the project, so it’s often customary to leave one tip for the whole job.

Do painters offer remote or virtual services?

Though painting has always been an in-person job, painters may be willing to offer some virtual help due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. If you come across painters’ profiles that state they offer remote services, message the painters to see what those services include.

I had a great experience with Luna and Sons painting. They have a nice business relationship with Dunn & Edwards so I was able to get a break on paint prices. I didn't have to pay for anything, including the paint untill the job was done. They painted every inch of my interior house and guesthouse. I was able to get a hotel since I have animals. They did a perfect and detailed job of preparing and covering my furniture, etc. Their prices were very reasonable. I highly recommend.

I have hired Silva Diversified Construction Co. LLC. To Paint the Interior of a rental property in the Midvale Park Area. I have been very impressed with this company; the owner is very professional and will work with your budget. I will have an updated review after the completion of this job. 7 to 10 days!

They were able to give me an estimate quickly. Painted interior of house in 1 1/2 days. They would ask questions about something instead of assuming to know what I wanted. Always polite and able to put up with barky dog! I would recommend to use them for your project.

Agustin and his partner painted 19 interior doors for my husband and me! Agustin came to our home to look at the job first and get a quote in order. His quote was extremely reasonable so we decided to move forward. He was extremely communicative, arrived ON TIME and finished same day. He and his partner worked over 12hrs to complete the job without any complaints. The quality of the work is great and would highly recommend him for any sort of paint job!

Hired for interior painting job: foyer, stairwell, and loft. Oscar came out to do the estimate himself, gave us a competitive quote, and impressed us with his expertise and personal concern. He stayed in touch throughout the project, and his crew was quick, careful and considerate. I'll definitely come back to him for any other projects that come up.

Augustin did an amazing job. He painted the interior and exterior of my 3bd 2bath 1170 sq ft town home. The price was competitive and he has connections with other labors to do additional work. He is great at communicating, was punctual, meticulous, detail oriented, and professional. I highly recommend him. By far one of the most honest tradesmen I’ve ever worked with.

So far, I have had Isaac repaint my two security screen doors. He was very conscientious about his work and took a lot of time preparing the doors and making certain that paint would not get on any of the surrounding areas. The 35 year old doors look practically like new. I had one issue which was not the painter's fault but Isaac still came back out to do what he could to make it right. He was very easy and pleasant to work with. Robert came and gave me an estimate on doing three interior rooms and the hallway. I am satisfied with the estimate and after the great job Isaac did on the doors, I will be having them out in the next few weeks to do the interior work. I will review again when that work is completed.

Gabe is responsible and trustworthy. He is a man of his word and keeps his commitments. I had him paint the interior of my home. There was plaster to be repaired and lots to be caulked. Many nail holes to be filled. He got it all done in the timeframe he committed to and the work was done well. The price was very reasonable. I've used two other painters in the past, I wish I'd known Gabe then as his work, reliability, price and timeliness exceeded both other painters I've used.

Gabe and his crew did a great job on our house and I highly recommend him for your painting needs. He responded to a request for quotes quickly and clearly explained what he was offering, the estimated quote, and the paint he would use, which is the high quality paint we would have selected for ourselves. We had a very big job, almost 3,000 sq ft, the whole interior including doors, trim, and ceiling, and he fit us in right away so we would be able to move into the house and not have to worry about the furniture or living with paint fumes. He showed up on time and did a great job of communicating with us. He and his crew are very nice guys who worked really hard, and even helped make recommendations about what we should do with some style issues in our house. When we added a few different colors and styles, Gabe again let us know what the cost difference and time difference would be, which was no problem. They finished a ton of work in less than a week and the house looks amazing. Our new neighbors even ended up hiring him after seeing our house! Gabe’s pricing is incredibly fair and he did an awesome job.

2,700 sq. ft. interior paint job, including two bathrooms. Gabe's quote was competitive, but what really separated LGP from others was his professional and courteous manner. Gabe took the time to bring samples back, let us look at them overnight, and seemed to really care about the quality of his work. His crew was good, friendly and professional. No spills, no slips, and at the end of the job they walked us around to help point out any areas we wanted touched up. We will hire LGP again for future projects. They showed up early and worked full days, keeping the total project time to a minimum. Honest and hard-working, with careful attention to detail. We couldn't have asked for more. 5 stars across the board.
