We love the work that Javier did for us. Most importantly, Javier is passionate about his work. A lot experience about gardening. We ended up hired him to work on two projects, front yard and back yard. He is the person you should go for if you have budget concern and yet looking for good quality of work.

Oscar arrived on time with his crew and spent a solid hour on my yard clean up project. With the recent rains and losing my previous gardener, the grass and weeds made the property look unsightly. I am so pleased with the results of the team's work. I feel like I got my property back and decided on hiring Oscar to do my monthly lawn maintenance. His price is reasonable and he and his crew are personable and professional. I'm glad I found him on Thumbtack.

It has been a great experience working with Honest Greens. Our garden was looking down trodden and under nourished from too many years of just mow and blow service. Steve is very knowledgeable and gives careful attention to the specific needs of our individual plants. Our garden has been thriving since we started working with them. Steve has also helped us adjust and regulate our drip system which is making a big difference in the condition and quality of our plants, and ensuring we’re not wasting water. We are very happy to be working with them.

After having a lot of estimates with no good results I am very pleased to have met John. He did a great job and is nice to work with. John cut and edged my grass, trimmed my tree and even pulled some weeds by hand. Then he used his blower to make everything look perfect. I highly recommend him and I can say I finally have a gardener, yea! Also...his prices are very reasonable for the work that he does.

Our front yard came out beautifully. We have the nicest curb appeal in our neighborhood and, we don't even need a gardener! About one year after the front yard was complete, we have started the backyard. Stamped concrete patio with an aluminum cover, artificial turf with a 3-hole putting green and drought tolerant plants with a drip system. We highly recommend this company.

My name is Erik Mendez. Me and my dad, Homero Mendez, do gardening together. We maintain houses well. We do good work. My dad himself has been doing this for about 15 years. He used to work for someone else until about four years ago. He then started his own work. Slowly our business is growing. Most of our work is from recommendations, so that says something. We do good work. We give affordable prices, and we can work with you if you think it's too expensive. We clean planters from weeds. We cut grass and edge it. We check the sprinklers if something seems wrong. We can repair or redo your sprinklers. We do tree trimming and clean areas like hills or empty lots. We fertilize, and we can get you some nice colorful plants. Almost anything that has to do with your yard, we can help you out with it.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to have landscaping done?

Professional landscaping can help reinvent your outdoor space, boost your curb appeal and get a major return on investment with. Landscaping can encompass anything from adding new plants, trees and shrubs, to leveling the ground and laying sod for a lawn, to building in hardscaping such as sidewalks, water features or retaining walls. The national average landscaping price is $10,160. Landscaping prices can be far lower (with hourly rates ranging from $50 to $150) if you’re only seeking professional help with softscaping or seeking consultation on landscape design. Softscaping means adding or changing horticultural elements, such as planting a garden or adding a hedge. Hardscaping is where costs can really start to rise. Hardscaping requires labor and heavy equipment to excavate the earth; you may need to pour concrete, or you may need a pro who can transport and place gravel and other inorganic elements. Your total landscaping cost will vary based on the amount of work you want done, how much labor is required, and the cost of the materials you are using. A good rule of thumb for a major landscaping project, according to the American Society of Landscape Architects, is to budget 5 percent to 10 percent of the value of your home.

How much does it cost to landscape your front yard?

Prices for landscaping your front yard can range from a few hundred dollars to tens of thousands of dollars, depending on the scale of your front yard project. Your landscaping price will reflect how much change you implement, how much labor is required, and the cost of materials.

Landscaping is typically made up of softscaping and hardscaping. Softscaping refers to selecting trees, bushes, flowers and plants to achieve a desired aesthetic and to meet goals such as having a drought-tolerant yard. Hardscaping refers to moving earth, installing structures, and putting in decorative stonework, sidewalks or lighting. For softscaping, you may want to hire a landscape designer to consult on your plants and layout, and then do the digging and planting yourself or hire a gardner to handle the heavy lifting. A landscape designer’s hourly rate may range from $50 to $150 or more. If you want a turnkey approach, meaning someone who works with you to create the vision and then executes all the work, landscaping pricing will typically come down to a cost per square foot rather than an hourly rate. It’s a solid investment: Great landscaping can add up to 28 percent value to your home.
