- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Alameda residents get a 10% discount on my regular labor rate.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Bids or quotes can often be prepared without a visit to the site. A description, along with a few photos may be all I need. Once a commitment to do the work has been made, I schedule a meeting with the client. This is when I explain the process so that he/she knows what to expect. A down payment (10% of the total contract price or $1000, whichever is less) may be, though not always, requested.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I got a summer job as a painter at age 20. This became my occupation for the next 30 years, at which point I decided that a career change was in order. I was hired by a tile contractor as an apprentice, and started my own business 10 years later.
