Albert did a spectacular job for our video testimonial. He did everything we asked him perfectly. I could not be more thrilled with how the final product turned out, and would most definitely recommend Albert to anyone looking for video production services.

Lawrence exceeded expectations in providing photography and video services for an 80th birthday celebration. His attention to detail and his passion for ensuring customer satisfaction during and after the event was truly outstanding. He arrived punctually at the beginning of the celebration, interacted with the guests in a professional and unobtrusive manner and remained later than the agreed upon time to ensure the capture of all important events of the celebration. He was easy to work with and takes great care and pride in his work. Highly recommended.

We needed a photographer last minute for an event and Kuks Singh was very helpful! Provided us with all the photography at the end (not edited, just raw footage) and even some video clips. I would recommend his services.

The booth host was wonderful. They arrived on time. I did get an enclosed booth but did not expect a tent style roof and enclosure as my party was not casual. I also had to ask for the video clips I was promised, the host was not aware of this. I have not received them to date.

Top notch experience with Diane on my drone video project - delivered everything as planned and was able to make a great judgement call in the field and on the fly to deliver solid video footage at a shoot site where conditions weren't ideal.

It was great working with LuvlyProduction, they have a very professional team from setup to clean up. I highly recommend them for your event. All I had was a wrinkled backdrop and some tape, but they set everything up so professionally. I have included a photo from our annual dinner. We liked luvlyproduction so much we have hired them for a second event. I included some sample photos. They can handle small or large photo groups and they brought coordinating props as I requested. A custom professional experience from beginning to end.

A while back a friend recommended Ilja's video service to me. I needed to produce a couple of product videos, but didn't know where to start. Ilja offered an reasonable price and I was really impressed with his professionalism and his efforts to make this project a success. He had great suggestions on how to get the script just right. He also found the perfect voice-over talent to narrate the videos. He came to my shop to look at possible filming locations and advised on how to best tackle the production workflow. Ilja also kept the editing process transparent and allowed me to give feedback periodically where I thought necessary. I have since hired Ilja to shoot photos during a private event that I hosted and could not be happier with the outcome. Bravo, Ilja! Will definitely hire again! John

Nic came ahead of time on the day of the event. He coordinated well with the photographer. We hired him for the raw footage of the event and highlights video. He was very responsive over email, and provided raw footage of the event within a week. Highlight video contained well selected scenes.

Charles Koppelman video-taped the proceedings of a 2+day academic conference at UC Berkeley's Clark Kerr Center Auditorium. Even if the light level was inadequate and he had to capture the sound off the speakers, we set the agreement on his use of a single camera (decided by us), he did a wonderful job of capturing the proceedings. The quality of the images are wonderful, as was the sound. We are very pleased with the end product.

Thank you Alex and Creative Cinema crew for fantastic job! We hired Alex to be our videographer for our wedding in September. We think it was our luck to find Alex as he provides extremely professional service. I liked his way to communicate where all my questions were answered at first few phone conversations. We have signed the contract, which I’ve found very helpful for those pre-wedding days with lots of information and unknowns. When my photographer gave ma a short notice that she could not make it on my wedding day! Stress…like it was not enough! I called Alex and he offered me photographer service as well! Thank you very much Alex! For my stress-free search in this matter :) Alex is very punctual, even if we agreed at certain time; he and Morgan arrived earlier to my parents’ house and were ready to start capturing. Moreover, they arrived earlier to the venue and captured place without guests and crowd, which I liked so I have pictures with initial setup. And then ceremony, reception and dancing time were captured with attention to important details. There are many important details at the wedding day and it is good if they had been captured by professional, so you can see them after in a good quality format. The delivery of pictures and video was as well extremely fast. We are very happy with final products. I love all my wedding pictures, (I am very picky for how I look in photographs), and of cause I love videos where I can see all what I wanted to be captured! I’ll not forget to mention that price for the great, stress-fee service was affordable and very reasonable. Thank you very much Alex and Creative Cinema crew for your exceptional work!

Keida was amazing to work with! He was very accommodating from the get go and we couldn’t be more happier with the outcome of his work. In our package, not only did he included the cool feature of a drone footage in our video but he was also able to capture every part of our wedding in multiple angles using one man’s power. We loved his work and is very thankful that he took the time to thoroughly put all then pieces together in our video. We truly would recommend him as a professional videographer for your wedding! Respectfully, The Kimotos

I highly recommend hiring Samerial for your next event! I recently hired her for my 30th birthday party and had requested a short social media YouTube friendly video of my birthday, photos capturing my friends, the ambiance and highlight moments including some roasts and toasts and a full video of my event. I had provided a reference example of my vision of the videos and upon receiving the short video clip within 24 hours Samerial had made my vision come true in video format! Cannot thank her enough for capturing this day for me and she came on time and was willing to stay through the evening to ensure she had captured all that I had requested. Samerial is extremely professional and I would definitely use her again in the future.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
