Lois is a wonderful tutor. As soon as she heard me talking she knew exactly what was it that I needed to train my English in order to take it to the next level. Highly recommendable to those who have an advanced level of English, because she is really precise and you get to learn a lot of history on the language. It is very enjoyable and it makes sense. If you need ESL, she's the one! She is also a writer, producer and acting coach, therefore she's also super creative and helpful when it comes to having to work out some text.

Helped with Relationship Counseling. My girl friend and I were going through a difficult time. We heard from others about the benefit of choosing a life coach over a MFT or a Psychologist. Our problems were communication about here and now. We didn't want to have to spend so much time individually sitting in "couch therapy " with a psychologist. Patti gets right to the underline issues. Her experience in this field is second to none. Our relationship including that of our teenage children that each of us has from our previous marriages has gotten so much better. Everyone in our family has benefited from we call her " our life coach" She is so easy to talk to. My fear and anxiety trusting to talk to someone with our issues went away the moment we met her. Our relationship has never been better thanks to Patti

I came to Loocidity looking to improve my resume so I would get more traction with hiring managers. Instead of a quick glance and some brief recommendations for improvement, I got a coach who took the time to get to know me, my strengths and weaknesses, taught me how to cater a resume to a specific job, and guided me through every step of the interview process. The coaching methodology isn't quick, but it's thorough, straightforward, and priced to get the job done rather than to count the minutes on the clock.

I have experienced Irina’s help and skills as a cooking instructor, chef and massage therapist. She has managed to integrate all of her methods aiming them towards healing, education, pain relief and life-coaching. She is sincere, entertaining and easy to communicate with. Additionally, Irina is flexible in running classes with adults and with children alike. She is always there for me and she showed me that healthy food is delicious, quick to prepare and inexpensive. I highly recommend her. She is a real professional.

I was so centered, grounded, and optimistic about my future projects, professionally, and in my personal life, after my coaching session with Andy Bates. He simply got me to see something I had overlooked in my life, and once this was made clear, I was able to work on solving the issue. I can't overstate how important this coaching session was with Andy. His guidance made a real life impact on my future. Since this event, my life has been so much more focused and richer. I was looking to lose my first 10 pounds. It was so hard to get on the right track. So, I was looking for help and I came across Joe. He is extremely supportive, knowledgeable, and patient. The hardest thing for me is to keep myself accountable and Joe held me accountable. He taught me to take pictures to see my progress, list the food that I was eating, and customize a workout plan for me. Thanks to Joe, I'm now down 14 pounds! I feel physically and mentally so much better! Ever since Joe started helping me, he doesn't feel like a coach, he's a great friend. I couldn't be happier!

A few things brought me to the Pasadena. After an 18 month long hiatus from sprint triathlons, a change in career and relocating to Pasadena, my search for a new trainer started. I plugged into Thumbtack and interviewed some candidates, then I found Tommy. What a find!! He's experienced, educated, motivating and understands my ultimate goal in my sport. I came in with a slight injury and his rehabilitative exercises are effective and yet making me stronger and faster. His dedication to what he does exudes through his training. He identifies and encourages me to push. Any athlete could increase their athleticism and talent when working with Tommy. Everything you want to know about your functioning body, nutrition, supplements, etc., he knows it. His patience is endless. I've trialed other trainers, but the rapport was lacking in attentiveness and follow through. 100% present every time. A life investment worth every minute. I feel confident that my goals will be reached working with Tommy Houck.

Melissa is The Master of Habit Change!! She helped ME change my diet and exercise routine toward a healthier lifestyle. Melissa has been incredible from the beginning. My initial consultation with her was an eye opener on how unhealthy my habits were. She put together a 90 day program custom to my needs and held me accountable. Melissa pushed me when I needed to be pushed and she was there for me to lean on when I didn't think I could do it. Melissa is a GREAT coach! She was in my corner every step of the way. Thank you SO much!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a career coach?

If you’re interested in furthering your career and want expert help, a career coach is a smart solution. A career coach is a professional you hire to guide you during a job search or a career transition, or to help you improve and advance in your current position. A career coach analyzes your work situation and learns what your professional goals are. They then create a strategy to help you achieve your targets. Throughout the process they should provide objective feedback and guide you in approaching the process strategically. Here are some of the tools and tasks a career coach may assist you with:

  • Helping you build a strong resume that reflects your work history, potential, and skills
  • Coaching for interviews and strategies for solid answers built around your resume and the target job
  • Defining your career goals
  • Creating a plan for job searching
  • Improving networking strategies and skills
  • Developing strategies for negotiating raises or promotions
  • Assessing why you’re not getting where you want to go
  • Identifying new positions or career opportunities that fit your skills

Why is career counseling important?

Career counseling can help you discover your career path, help you overcome challenges preventing you from finding happiness in your job, or help you learn more about career opportunities that are available to you. Career counselors are typically counselors who specialize in helping guide people into their best career choices. As professionals, they have typically completed a master’s degree in counseling with a focus on career counseling and bring a nuanced understanding of the emotional blocks that prevent someone from doing what they love or getting ahead in their current position. Here are some of the ways that career counseling can help:

  • Identify your skills and talents and how they correlate to different career paths
  • Educate you about the educational requirements for launching in various careers and what earnings can look like
  • Help you understand the kind of environment you want to work in, and which careers are best suited for that
  • See opportunities to transfer your existing skill set to other career areas
  • Help you identify causes of tension or unhappiness in your current career and how to overcome those difficulties
  • Help you create a game plan for moving forward
  • Provide a safe space for you to understand your feelings about career choices you’re making

How much does it cost to hire a career coach?

A career coach provides one-on-one sessions to help you reach your career goals or overcome any challenges you’re having in your career path. The cost to have career coaching can vary based on factors such as the number of sessions you purchase at one time and the experience and rates of your counselor. Career counselors are typically professionals who have earned at least a master’s degree in their field. Based on their academic background, supplemental certifications they have received, and any postdoctoral work they have done, their rates may vary. Typically career counselors offer reduced rates when you sign on for their services on an ongoing basis. A typical price range for career counseling services (nationally) could be $75-$150 per session. Remember to always ask if the career counselor offers a complimentary introductory session. You want to make sure the relationship will be the right personality and counseling style fit to help launch your confidence and upcoming career changes.

How much does it cost to hire a career coach?

When it’s time to take your career to the next level, it’s time to hire a career coach. The cost to have a career coach help you with your professional journey will vary based on how many sessions you require, the level of coaching you desire, and the rates of the coach as determined by their experience, expertise, education and training. On average, career coaching sessions can range from 60 to 120 minutes, depending on the professional and what your needs are. Career coaches in smaller towns and areas with a lower cost of living will also typically have lower rates than those residing in large metro areas like New York, although most do offer remote coaching. Many coaches also offer a free introductory consultation, which gives you the opportunity to determine if their personality and coaching style are the right fit. It’s helpful to ask the coach about their relevant experience and get references from former clients. Depending on the professional, session rates could range anywhere from under $60 to well over $250 per session. Package discounts are a good way to commit to the relationship as well as get savings on services.

What is a career counselor?

If you’re feeling lost in your career path, overwhelmed, in need of a job but confused as where to start, or ready for change but uncertain what you want, a career counselor is a good choice for you. A career counselor is typically a licensed professional who has earned a master’s degree in counseling — likely with an emphasis on career counseling. Each state has different licensing requirements for career counselors, so be sure to research before reaching out to a pro.

Due to their academic backgrounds, career counselors often have a more holistic and in-depth approach than a career coach. Career coaches are not regulated by states and also tend to be more business-focused — a good fit for those who know what they want but need help achieving it. On the other hand, a career counselor provides guidance and clarity around some of the more emotional aspects that job hunting and career movement entail. Career counselors meet with you in a series of one-on-one sessions. They assess your personality and learn what drives you. They get a detailed understanding of your work history and your hopes, and often work to help you discover any internal blocks preventing you from going where you want to go. Hiring a career counselor is appropriate at any time in your career, from recent graduate to executive-level management.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
